Starting a thread for discussion related to DOTP. General strategy comments, card interaction bugs, technical issues, and questions about card and play mechanics and how they are supposed to work and the relay of official announcements regarding the game.
I will try to post something relevant every day but for the time being I'm still chained to the WOTC forum modding the bugs and tech issues threads and practically live there.

Welcome new members and migrated WOTC forum members.

Nice to have spell check btw. I become moderately dyslexic with a few beers. ;)

Magic 2014 Bugged Card Interactions.

The first spoiler will be for active, reported bugs, the second spoiler will be for confirmed bugs.

Be as detailed as possible as in what platform you're on, what deck you are playing against, etc...

Reported bugs with duplication will be considered Confirmed and moved.

Have fun storming the castle!

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

-Yes, killing or bouncing a fiend hunter before his ability removes the other card from the table results in it being permanently exiled
-Yes, Ovinize is SUPPOSED to remove hexproof/first strike/whatever from the other creatures your target grants it to, but...
-No, Ovinize isn't working properly.
-No, Ovinize is NOT supposed to remove +x/+y effects, or counters...that part IS working correctly
-Yes, you should be allowed to pick new targets for Reverberate and Twincast but....
-No, Twincast and Reverberate aren't working correctly.
-The Protean Hydra didn't die because it was being buffed by a +x/+y effect, meaning it's toughness will never drop below y when removing counters, or you had deathtouch, which only does 1 damage.
- Mirror Entity is buggy, and doesn't always grant all the effects it should (mainly, the demon achievement and sometimes buffs from slivers to nonslivers)
-Your creature with protection died because protection only protects against DEBT (Damage, Enchant/Equip, Blocking, Targeting). That's why your creature died to that sacrifice effect/sweeper effect/reduction of toughness (i.e. -x/-y, where y >= power of your creature)
-If a card does not say "target >>permanent<<", then the card does not target. Conversely, if it does say that, it does target. That's why Evangelize didn't grab that hexproof creature and why Fleshbag Marauder made you sacrifice that hexproof.
-The "Fight" mechanic is not combat damage ( Seraph of the Sword ).
-Life loss is not damage, only when the word "damage" appears it's damage. ( Worship , Pariah , Elderscale Wurm and other similar effects).

I have the game on Steam, but I've been really unimpressed with it. If they'd finally put in some way to create your own deck from cards collected I'd love it, but as it stands it's just bad.

I sorta tinkered with the Kindle version due to being stuck in a hotel with no computer for a couple of weeks.

It was a decent time passer, but if I was as serious about magic as I was back when I actually played Magic I could see it bugging me quite a bit.

Its sorta...linear... but I can understand a bit of that due to how huge MtG is, however I'd still like the ability to just build decks on my own.

It is pretty linear in the aggro mostly format we have to work with this year. I do like it's constructed lean. You pay for the game and are on an equal footing with most players. With 120 cards in each deck to mess with it really comes down to build skill to get your wins in.
It's mostly a digital commercial but I as others have not the time to play irl or want to sink money into mtgo so this is a nice goto.
Multiplayer is the real draw. I have many friends to play ffa with. We have our mikes on and it' like sitting around the table with people from all over the world.

I just can't understand people that like that game because you can't build decks.

I actually liked the game a lot. I've had a bunch of stuff I've gotten super into that didn't necessarily have the same depth as chess. Final Fantasy Tactics, for instance, is still one of my fave games ever, even though in the ten years I've played it, there hasn't really been anything new.

I really like a lot of the narrative structure of the game, even if it is ridiculously shallow, it shows a lot of initiative on their part to doll up the game, which is definitely appreciated.
That being said, I don't think, as a game, it's as good as 2012, but then again, that one set such a seriously high bar for replayability and diversity.
Both Archenemy and Planechase were a helluva lot more fun than the sealed pool, which shouldn't have been touted as the "big thing" for it.

I seriously loved the expansion though, those decks were incredibly fun.

On this forum my role is to develop the Magic: The Gathering community. While I personally do not actively play Duels of the Planeswalkers, there is a community of people who do and we should be accepting of this community and welcome this community to our forum. Posts in this thread were moderated for being disrespectful to another user and more importantly disrespectful to the Duels of the Planeswalker community. While I am not a moderator, I want to tell everybody to be respectful to one another, not because of the Code of Conduct, but because we are a new forum and a new community. We cannot afford to look down on other people because of the games they chose to play and how they chose to enjoy them. Being insular is a recipe for a quick death for a community.

The current community members and the examples they set dictates whether or not somebody joins. I want this community, DotP and Magic specifically, to grow in a positive manner. Let us all work together to make this grow into something lasting.

And just to back up Slobad a bit, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for a bit to make sure it stays on track. Please don't make more work for me; more work makes me grumpy...

I'm not saying you have to roll out the red carpet to welcome any new poster or community of posters. What I am saying is that you don't get to be jerk just because you don't like the game they play.

Yeah, they tried to say that Sealed as a replacement didn't take anything away from the game and additional slots were just extra but there is incredibly low replayability compared to Archenemy or Planechase. I get switching out the non-standard modes, but Sealed didn't work here.

DotP isn't a replacement for mtg or mtgo. It's meant as an introductory product, or a gateway to the game. The target audience is casual players and new players. Once you understand that, then you understand why there is no way to build your own deck and never will be. Deck building is overwhelming to new players and casual players, so it makes sense to take it out of the equation and only have very limited customization possibilities (although the depth of customization has grown a lot since the first version where you couldn't even remove cards!)

So yes, for most of us who have been playing for a while, the game can feel shallow and can get a little boring. However, it still holds a lot of value. It is the first thing I suggest to people who want to join the game as it's a great teaching tool for rules, basic strategies and even card evaluation. A lot of new players I meet joined the game because they saw dotp on steam or the xbox store or whatever and decided to give it a try and got hooked. A few of my friends who aren't as serious about the game as they used to still get their mtg fix on dotp.

So even though I don't play dotp much because I find it gets boring fast for me, I wouldn't change the core concept of the game because I find it is very valuable to mtg as a whole. I'm not the target audience and that's fine with me. I accept that not every single mtg products are for me.

Honestly, as much as I seriously prefer planechase in physical terms, the archenemy in 2012 was way more fun because of the combination of decks you could play against as the archenemy. Teaming up different walkers is tons of fun.
The only thing I really would like to change is being able to access the scheme cards and change them around, even if a little.

Sealed would be fine as a constant feature, but it isn't big enough.

It's nice to see some conversation going on. Welcome.
I will be updating the bugs list shortly as I have had some help in playtesting for confirming or removing reports.
Good gaming.

Edit: For all who have not played this yet, Garren's description of the main campaign pretty much sums it up only the way Garren can.

You know what I've got more issues. Whats up with the story in this game? The adverts said I was going to team up with Chandra and we were going to kick butt and chew bubblegum across the planes on a revenge campaign against some... guy she knew I guess? Who's Ramaz anyway? What do I get instead? I beat Chandra like 2 minutes in with a mono-green stompy thing Garruk gave me (why does he keep giving all these new planeswalkers his deck) and then I spent like 5 hours jumping from plane to plane picking up random nicknacks for her mantlepiece while she sits back back doing her nails or something. I was thrown in jail! I got hit by a Roil Storm twice! Do you know how many rats are on Ravnica, Chandra? All of them! All of the rats! All of the rats eating me!

Then we go kick her Ex's bearded-screaming-butt and what does she do to help? Nothing! She throws of the occasional fire ball and spends her time trying not to freeze to death. You should have worn pants Chandra. While we're on the subject what happened to your shoes? You had like Steelies on. Steelies are cool. Now your running around with stupid boots with like 5-inch heels? Thats not appropriate footware for Planeswalking! That's not appropriate footware for normal walking! At least Liliana is doing it for the whole 'evil is sexy' thing and can summon undead to carry her when she breaks her ankle. What are you going to do ride a Phoenix? Its made of fire! You'll fall right through! Man I should have gone Planeswalking with Liliana - yeah she'd crack my head open with a rock 5 minutes in and raise my corpse to serve her but at least we could have gone dancing!

I would kill for an updated version of the old MircoProse MtG Shandalar game from back in the 90's. I could build decks in that game and the interface didn't make me angry.

That said, I can get behind Duels as a new, more modern way to introduce players to the hobby. I just wish it wasn't so buggy.

Introducing Sealed was a great thing but the implementation does not lead to a lot of replayability.
I've seen most in agreement that Archenemy should return in 2015. It's either that or Commander... and that won't happen.

I wish sealed decks was 2 slots where every day you connect to online an the pools reset, so your pools are ever changing like how decks change every sealed tournament
