So, technically speaking if you don't know who the author is then you don't have permission to post it. (Unless there is some overarching "ownership" from one of the people you've been in contact with, obviously.)

Let's see if we can get you and Gruff to work out some details - he should be able to help you organize a bit, give you some tips and best practices, and so on. That helps you get the most out of the tool available to you while being able to meet your commitment of giving credit as needed and adding license terms.

That would be John R regarding info dealing with the ITA and Mr. Edelstein regarding the AHTG

The main reason behind TS hosting stuff on the wiki is attempting to run an RPG in a setting where you cannot access its material except by broken links via the WayBackMachine becomes more than tedious. The idea wasn't to go in and edit what the original authors had designed, but rather host the information somewhere easier, annotate credit as applicable, and then run the game on the boards.

At least that's what I gathered was his plan....

Well the original plan was simply a thread with all the relevant info needed to do an RP in the ITA but as i said in my above post it was pointed out that the wiki would be a better place.
It not a matter of it being 'incorrect' that it's posted on the wiki. It's a matter of, like I said earlier, making sure that the content creators are given credit, that anything not allowed to be used isnt, and that anything used under something like a CC License abides by said license. That remains true whether it was spread across a few wiki pages, or dumped in one massive thread.

The only diference being that people can edit wiki pages, so you have to be cognizant of who is changing what to say what. It might me needed to put in a second kind of category similar to 'official' that would restrict people from changing IP articles.

So, one thing worth noting for the folks following along at home:

The license that the OVERALL STRUCTURE is being posted under can be viewed here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/

Here's what that means:
Quote:
You are free to:

Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material

The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

Under the following terms:

Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.

No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

My understanding of this, then, is that what I'd hoped for is possible: other NGA members can add to the project if they want! Woohoo! That's great because this transforms this from something usable on the wiki for one or two games into something that can be a growing asset (though only in a cultural sense, not economic!) for NGA as a whole :D While there's nothing anywhere that stipulates that something on the Wiki MUST take this form, I'm much more inclined to feel it's worth spending attention points on something that has this level of flexibility and growth potential.

That said, it's still not clear to me whether EVERYTHING falls under this license or just the core concept. That's something I'd like clarification on, I think. It's no big deal if individual worlds drop, though, because the structure is what's really important. Anything else can be populated by NGAters.

One thing worth noting with this though is that it's important according to the license terms to make a "reasonable" effort to note changes to the original materials. I can put together a license template with relative ease, I think, though, so that's not a huge deal either, and it's something we should have available anyway. That's going to be worth paying attention to, though, since the FAQ ts posted is clearly written for a different context than what the project is in now, meaning that it probably does need to be rewritten somewhat to better fit with NGA.

Fire if you could make a non-editable license page hat would be most welcomed

Yeah the ITA/AHTG FAQ is gonna be to be rewritten , there's also some other things that I need some advice on but they be talked about in the thread down in the RPG thread viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4617

Also, i'd like to say sorry for being a jerk, it felt to me that you guys weren't trusting me. I'm sure that's not the case but you all didn't deserve the anger i was directing towards you.

I poke around the WayBackMachine version of the ITA page and look to see what all falls under the CCL.

You also might consider passing Jonathan Edelstein's email or whatever to me in a PM so that I can touch base with him and see pique his brain on a thing or two.

No apologies needed. I'll think if there's any other questions I need answered and direct them at your other thread.

I'm gathering information on the licenses and how best to set them up but I'll get to work soon on making that a thing that the wiki has.
