In all fairness he could have borrowed one without permission with all intention to return it. He just needs it to perform some valuable research the others wouldn't have otherwise let him.

How about it was his pokemon handed down through family generations? The Castform was with his family for generations, and it was how he became a scientist at the Weather Institute, but [insert dramatic event] happened and now he and his faithful Castform now travel the world?

It's just an idea. The Institute could've sent me to study the Castform in Sinnoh's cold weather. I just figured it would be cool to be a researcher and have a weird pokemon like a researcher should have. The details aren't locked yet.

The dramatic event seems to be [he broke the law] and now he and his stolen Castform now travel the world, hiding from the Pokemon Rangers and Officer Jennies.

Oh well, a no is a no, I guess. Give me some time to think about something. I'm open to suggestions if anyone wants to help. It just has to be something weird that a scientist would study and favors special attacks over physical ones. I would also like to avoid Psychic types to not step on Squinty's toes.

Porygon are always kinda awesome for the science-minded individual. Though they may fall under the same 'kinda hard to get a hold off' problem that Castform had.

Porygon is fine, the only reason I'm really opposed to Castform is because you can literally only get one ever.
