Given how often he's missing,

OK, so I've talked about this on the old forums, and I've refrained from bringing it up again on NGA because I didn't want to make it a Big Deal™, and I was kind of hoping that someone would remember and point it out to people for me, but seeing as that's obviously never going to happen, I may as well just say it right here:

I'm a woman. Stop calling me he.

Thanks. Just wanted to get that out of the way.

I suggest PO nominate a vice-chairman to the project or something.

TPzombieW and Shazzeh are the only real options here because they're the ones who've stepped up.

Good luck. I gave up trying to get people to use the right pronoun when referring to me a long time ago. Online, apparently I'm a man.

I suggest PO nominate a vice-chairman to the project or something.

And they've done a bang-up job so far. So, why not just put them both in the co-person-in-charge position. Redundancy keeps things going, so the more people we have that can take over for whatever reason the better the chances this set gets finished.

I'm in favor of TP and Shazzeh being promoted.

Also, since we're talking about it here, how would you two feel about us A. changing the Gender list to a Preferred Pronoun list and B. possibly making your choice visible in the user sidebar thing when you post (since I honestly strongly suspect that no one ever bothers to look on the profiles for this info)? There's been some discussion of it elsewhere but not where people for whom it actually matters pay attention to it, so I'm gonna grab your thoughts while I can here.

@Parad and Echo - I apologize for the pronoun oversight. We live in a world where male is the default gender and I rarely think to look into the backgrounds of the people around me.

@Keeper - Huh, I always figured the gender thing must show up on the post sidebar. That's something the GobOs will have to get on. We should probably move any further discussion on the topic to a new thread. Metaboard maybe?

Well, as a trans woman, I can say that "Male-to-Female" and "Female-to-Male" aren't the best ways to put it, as a lot of trans people don't consider themselves to ever have been the gender they were assigned at birth. I would say "Trans Female" or "Trans Male" instead, possibly with an *, though that particular detail is not important to me.

As for putting it in the sidebar, I think that's an excellent idea. Nobody except a Nosy Goblin would actually look at anybody's profile.

Done.

Woop, thanks for showing the initiative Parad.

I decided, though, rather than let that get buried in the requests thread, we might as well just have a full on discussion about it. That can be found here. Sorry, I didn't see your post till I had finished making the new thread U_U

Dang it, Gruff, last week it was ticking off ancient, immensely powerful dragons, this week it's undercutting someone else's posts! For shame, Gruff, for shame! Planeswalk outta here, don't you see the NO GOBLINS ALLOWED sign?

For the record, I wasn't around Wizard forums very long, so I don't know anything about anyone, really.
I refer to everyone here as "he". I will *try* to remember who's what gender, but chances are I will forget.
Just... think of it as me using the generic "he", if there is such a thing.

The "preferred pronoun" thing would be decently nice.

I started on the wizard forums with male pronouns so I have no idea how I got people to start using female ones. Probably my new name :V

Unabashedly off topic

Well, Parad, until this moment I never knew you were a woman.

Whenever I use the word 'he' I mean it in the inclusive sense to refer to anyone of the human race, rather than in the much more modern exclusive sense to refer to the male gender. I will say she from now on though, should the situation come up again.

I think I had already switched over for some of your accounts (I still don't know exactly all of who you were, but whatever). Some combination of avatar, context clues, and never being corrected I guess.

We had all those angel ones, me and some other people. Those were really the only ones I used. Oh right I forgot about the infamous pink incident. The past is embarrassing

Is the pink incident the one where people started adding pink dresses to their avatars? I remember that, I can't remember if I participated or not. I do remember I made my avatar a sheriff for a good while afterwords though...

No the other one where I turned everyone into girls and made them type in pink for like a month. Kings of Spam stuff and stuff.

Btw, are the colors split up between Frostwynd and Illpyre?

Not really. I imagine the whole ice and fire bit to skew how the colours show up in both regions. That's okay, but it's not something we're aiming for.
The card types however, are totally split between regions. Enchantments in Illpyre, artifacts in Frostwyned. The other types are split evenly.

So, TP, you seem to sort of be guiding flavor development. I think that Yxoque's suggestion that we divide into two teams and just... produce material en mass rather than waiting around for approval of each individual piece. I'm in, and it looks like you've got your other people, so... how do you want to divide things up?

We need to pin down the base creature types before dividing things up. I vote:

Characteristics:
G: Elves (plus small Treefolk, plants, saprolings, usual beasts)
W: Kithkin (plus some birds, elementals, maybe spirits?)
U: Vedalken (bleed white) (plus small elementals)
B: Zombies/Skeletons (plus... ugh, I don't know, what's good for small black filler creatures?)
R: Viashino (bleed green and black) (plus small elementals, maybe jackals, other random desert animals)
Midrange:
G: Treefolk and Yeti
W: Loxodons
U: Elementals? (plus Haints)
B: ???
R: Ogres (plus elementals, Haints)
Iconics:
G: Elder Land Wurms (plus antlions)
W: Angels
U: Sphinxes
B: Demons (plus antlions and sandwurms)
R: Phoenixes??

This gives us a wide range of sapient races: Humans, Kithkin, Vedalken, Viashino at characteristic tier, Loxodons, Treefolk, Yetis, and Ogres at midrange, and Elder Land Wurms (maybe), Angels, Sphinxes, and Demons at iconic tier. With these in place the individual teams can consider A. whether each race is present on their side and B. how those races exist on either side of the planet, how many subtribes there are, &c.

We also have this range of Planeswalkers currently:

Aloise Hartley in GWU
Gruff in R

Do we want a third Planeswalker native to Starstill?

Also, I think what you wrote for Makara is good, TP, but I think maybe we want to specify that out of the band of life circling the globe which is named Makara, the Makara Forest itself isn't the whole thing. That allows us to do a bit more with that region than we could otherwise.

Gonna bring this back since none of it was ever responded to, I don't think.

Sorry for the lack of response Keeper. Works been hell and the thread's been busy with all sorts of craziness too. The list looks pretty good. I just have a few recommendations

:
I don't think Kithkin ever came up. However, I don't see any real argument against them beyond "we already have a bunch of races".

:
Definitely got to have some elementals. and elementals really sell the set's flavour with their contrasts.

:
Black races are tough. For more black characteristics you can always throw in an assassin, a necromancer, a bat, maybe a merchant? I guess the big question is, do we want vmi? I fear that may be too much focus on the undead, but the eternal night works with them pretty good. They can always steal space from skeletons, which I never saw as a huge player.

Ogres might be worth putting in black instead of red. Black needs the creature types more than red does.

I wouldn't use Dune-style sand wurms. I'd rather have draconic ones. They might act like sand wurms though. They would be green though.

:
I would concentrate elementals in midrange and have a few bleed into iconic. We've got the mother of all sun-baked deserts covering half the planet. Lets have a few powerful elementals to match it. Elelemntals are great in that they can be any size so small ones work too.

Viashino can straddle the line between iconic and midrange.

I would put antlions in red. They just seem red to me. I guess it's the burrowing.

:
Treefolk probably shouldn't go below midrange, except maybe one oddball.

I'd add fungus for the Frostwynd side. Saprolings go with that I guess. Man I wish Saprolings had the fungi type.

I definitely want land wurms in the set. Top of our food chain right there. Don't have to be elders even.

Did we ever decide on the name of the Starstill plane? This is important because I want to make a Soul of it for NGA Masters.

Make the ogres scavengers or cannibalistic. Makes them black. Personally, I would want vampires to be the frostwynd iconic black creature since Frostwynd barely sees the sun.

And no, don't we settled on a name for the plane.
