Well I think with Crystalshore some of it came from that it was posted and then content edited in rather than being a bit extensive up front.

But too, most every person who posts in world building has posted there. So before it gets more activity, the site needs more traffic is all ...

My opinion anyway

Well my post was aimed at that old saying "content breeds content" I don't disagree with it...i'm just sick of hearing it. There's clearly content but in some cases it's not really bringing in more content. So before it gets more activity, the site needs more traffic is all ...like for example in the world building area there's only 9 threads, and outside of the general stuff there, I'm the only one who has posted actual settings for various gaming styles. I understand that d20m isn't everyone's cup of whatever. Or to put it another way, I'd like to see more folks posting more settings. Maybe that will bring in more content.

I definitely understand your frustration, though. It can be hard when you feel like you're putting in all this work and not getting any return on it. I think we've all been there are various points in our lives. My only real advice is just to say keep at it, because you WILL eventually get a return on that investment. We are working to build the entire community and RPG specifically over the next few months.

One thing that has helped M:EM, I think, is the way we tried consciously to build a community dedicated to critique. The fact that works get voted into the archives gives people a concrete goal to work for, in a way, and a reason to post drafts and works in progress so that people could provide feedback.

Granted, we haven't grown as quickly as I'd like, but F&S, our main source of traffic, ultimately is itself a pretty slow-growing community, unfortunately.

Oh, also the fact that everything is shared with the community has been a big help, since people read other people's stuff thinking "Could I make use of this somehow?"

Also, contests. Contests are a thing we do.

Not sure if that helps, but maybe it's food for thought

Contests are hard in PbP. I mean, you could do a "Describe an Establishment" or "Make the Social Structure of Race X," but that's more just writing and world building than roleplay. We now have an Arena thread where people fight, but it's little used thus far. I dunno, contests and the like for PbP is just kinda awkward....

Yeah the best thing for pbp is a lot of active games, and that is something that will only happen with a lot of users; there isn't really any short cut to invigorating that area. My advice is for everyone to swing by and see if there is anything that interests you, make a comment, or just join a game that looks fun; explore!

The RPG side continues to dwindle...

From the site staff side of things do you have any plans to actually draw more users? Or at this point are we banking on people discovering us among the much larger and more active other sites out there?

We should really work on getting some 5e content up, that'd help bring in people as they start googling questions and such about the new system.

If nothing else getting people to start reading our threads is the first good step in getting them to start signing up. We're still getting DotPers joining daily that have been lurking for 6+ months and just reading that area.
