I go to the Flavor and Storylines forum just to check something from the MEM archives and see the announcement that "most of our data" was irretrevably destroyed and everything is moving somewhere else.

I checked here and the archive here seems incomplete to say the least. The Flavor Archive of canon short stories and concept art is... where? Acharu is missing. Didn't see Sertaria or Tyranix either! Please tell me they simply aren't uploaded yet, as opposed to irreversibly deleted or disqualified due to New Rules and/or Wizards Copywrite Lawyers.


What is going on?



I have saved the Acharu docs and art and can re-post it if requested, though re-formatting it from the word format will be time-consuming to say the least and it may be a while. I absolutely don't have time to write or vote in M:EM at this time. I'm just stopping into ask WHAT

They simply aren't transferred yet most of the "lost" data was really just hidden, or buried under mounds of excrement and broken links by the forum transfer -- they can actually be found by abusing custom google searches. We're in the process of migrating all old data to the archives here, including the NGA wiki, but it's a slow process in part because, well, we're still making more! In fact, most of the oldest M:EM entries, while still considered Expanded Canon, have been on the back burner for migration. So there's that at least, and I think we might have more saved in the top-secret google docs vault. I trust the Archivist will swing by and correct me if the raw text for Archaru is needed. Posting it would also probably allow a fast track of its migration, if you got the chance.

As Tevish said, everything should still be out there, and it will get ported over here eventually. We've been somewhat busy with new stuff lately, and, you know, real life and all. Keeper or Luna should be able to get you anything you need, I believe.

Exposition time.

Read that if you'd like, it's a piece Raven wrote to chronicle our migration from the mothership. I keep referencing it, and Raven subtly does now and again as well.

First and foremost, I'm so glad you're back and I hope you're planning on being here enough that I can put you back on the "active M:EMber" list. I'm now the current Archivist, though you may remember me as Its_Always_42 from the mothership.

I have copies of everything that had been in our Archives up to the time of the Great Forum Apocalypse in an external hard drive, and have been slowly uploading things. Believe it or not, the last thing I was working on formatting (before meatspace threw a whammy at me that caused me to go on a mini-vacation) was Tyranix. Sertaria is here, it should be on the very last page of our Archives at the moment.

If you've taken notice, though, we have had an absolutely huge influx of new content in the past few months. I make it a point anymore to at least read if not vote on EVERYTHING, so uploading the old Archives has been slow going. Before you go offering anything, it won't help because A) I'm correcting any and all typos I find; B) I'm cross-referencing the material to make sure it's all formatted correctly; and most importantly C) I'm constructing a visual map of our Archivea as I go along and reading everything before putting it up is important for this. Uploading the Archives goes pretty slowly when we get five or so works to vote on per week on average.

Oh, yeah, that's another thing: there have been a few rules changes including that we vote on a weekly basis now. Hope I cleared a few things up for you. Nice to see you back

Question, what is the Starstill project I've seen mentioned in various places here? And what happened to the various planes that were being drafted before the Apocalypse? Namacanaan, Szinada, Diguo, Gliriodisaea, Matahourua, etc.? (I made a list of them.)

Well I got a driver's license, Social Security, and an additional social worker, and am volunteering more. Still have health insurance. My oldest brother had his first baby; I get to meet her in October. Still jobless and very stressed out and overwhelmed. Have to replace my computer and OS and I'm really, really upset about it, it's chewing me up and I have no clue what to do. Very busy now, and discovering that I may be even less capable of actually working at a real job than I already thought, which is super depressing. Trying to increase my abilities but it's very difficult. My job-search social workers even put my job search on hold until we're sure I'm ready/able to work. Physical health has improved with a new medicine, though. That's a big relief. Also actually started paying off some school loans, and had tons of fun at CONvergence (a big local convention).

I started buying Magic novels. Right now all the ones on my reading list are available through interlibrary loan because Minnesota is awesome like that, but now that I volunteer regularly at a library I know how darn fast they discard books and I can't count on obscure books like those staying available forever. I found some used ones for sale that had been donated to my library, picked up some, but decided not to get 2 Kamigawa books because the third wasn't there. Even though they were 50 cents each. Then I went to a used bookstore and Kamigawa #2-3 are available! Go back to the library, and books have been put in storage for the next book sale who knows when, in which I have to get them before someone else does. I feel bad for missing that opportunity. On the other hand I picked up like 10 other books that I was looking for in other series so that was nice. It's amazing to have spending money every month of the year.

This terrible thing happens to me every time I buy books... I almost always start reading one of them, even if that interrupts the book I was already reading. I was in the middle of The Smoke Ring (Larry Niven) and then found myself reading Valdemar novels instead. Last October I interrupted The Lord of the Rings to read the Dragonriders series. Matahourua has been ported over and is still kinda being worked on by the original author (now named Heliosphoros on these forums).

I believe Szinada was a Skibo project, and Skibo just up and disappeared on us long before the apocalypse.

Gliriodisaea rings a bell but I couldn't tell you the current status. The other two I don't recognize, so I'm afraid I can't tell you.

I will tell you up front that I didn't save the works in progress before the great freeze, on the logic that those who were working on them would have the original files and that those who were still interested in completing them would resurrect the projects on the new forums if they felt compelled to.

Also, that sounds awful, and I wish I had something uplifting to tell you, but I don't think I have the proper frame of reference to. I hope your situation improves.

Nah, it was mine. It's one of the Unfinished Atlas projects. The white section grew so complex that I had to stop because it would take so much to sort the info. Green never really got finished.
Now I want to say THAT one is truly dead because the developer is no longer with us.

Skibo's gone.

Yeah, Skibo just sort of up and vanished one day. I don't think anyone really knows what happened to him... it's been... wow, maybe a few years since he was spotted last?

Arbitracious and Gamma Mage both are MIA too, if you remember them. No idea where either of them went.

And, well, no offense, but it's probably for the best. We've had that discussion before though.
