I know this has already been addressed, but TS this comes across as rather rude to someone who's making most every effort to help.

A major thing that would help is meeting half way. There's is near infinite information available, as I discussed elsewhere, if you cant find what you need via the tutoritials on our site, then check through Google, and wikipedia itself. If you still haven't found anything then drop a thread into the metaboard and see if maybe someone else can provide an assist. But acting as if Gruff isnt doing anything to help because he cant be around 24/7 is way off base.

Well, with something like this, it's possible that loading a new system might break existing pages by adding new weird code, forcing you to manually reset them. You'll notice at least one of the things Welder found has an apparent tendency to break existing pages.

Does the site have a test site and a test wiki? For instance we have a 'training' version of a computer system at work so people can get in there and muck around and not delete hundreds of thousands of bucks worth of stuff.

No no. The sandbox is so a user can tinker around with various things and not worry about breaking something.

I'm talking about a duplication of the wiki to install and test software on the back end to make sure it wouldn't utterly destroy things once it was installed.

Unless Welder's been keeping one hidden from me? No. It might not be a terrible idea to get one...

Note that some user-level stuff already has potential to wreak havoc. Someone editing the overall Infobox template without editing all the other things that make use of it to make sure they still work would break... uh... all kinds of...

I was actually just looking at infoboxes that I might borrow from wikipedia and set up... and surprised at how easy it would be to break a ton of stuff. Hitting space bar once and hitting save would break 400,500 pages instantly. >.<

I have things set up somewhat differently from Wikipedia, just so you know. A lot of what I think is done on wikipedia in each individual infobox template is handled on NGA via an overarching template. It's a little more restricted but I did that because it's WAY easier to fill in a bunch of boxes with the information you want than to have to recode a bunch of complex parser functions every time you want to build a new infobox. I'm open to alternatives though if there's a better way of doing things.

Also, stuff you see with {{!}}? That's designed to stand in for "|" keys, which you need to make tables but which will break parser functions. It's the one major reason why writing infobox code is a colossal drag. It's a powerful system when you can get it to work, but when you can't it's a nightmare.

Let me know what you need and I'll try to get you set up.

Make me an info box for cities for RPG stuff or even fan faction. Similar to the 'settlement' infobox that wikipedia uses.

Room for a flag / seal at the top, and then your basic information: size, population, leader, goverment type, races, etc. Maybe a few other things I cant think of currently.

Give me the full list and I can get it done. Hell, I might just write a tutorial as I'm doing it so you and others can do it in the future. It really should be extremely simple at this point based on the way I've set things up.

I know how to do it, its just a matter of sitting down and actually doing it.

That sounds good. There's a total of 30 slots right now to work with, which seemed like a reasonably huge number at the time, but I can add more if you need more.

I'll have to look more into it on my next big wiki binge. For now I'm actually doing a large chunk of my work offline and then submitting it once im home.... its not exactly the best, but I make due with what I have.
