So, there's been a little talk about doing a freeform game in the Setup Zone, and I for one really want to get one going. There's also been mention of utilizing several threads for different locations around the world / city / setting. So, while keeping it fairly loose, anyone have a suggestion on what kind of setting to use?

I like the idea of modern-day urban fantasy, but I'm fine with anything.

I was thinking of something other than high fantasy as well.

It would be high fantasy of course though. But even if someone ran some sort of high fantasy it could have the potential to outlast the previous RP games.

You know...we could combine the two...have both high fantasy magic and modern urban magic...

Here how it would work :

Right now we'd have two different worlds one which be based on high magic fantasy ( no modern tech would work there) and a separate world that would be modern urban magic ( some higher level magic wouldn't work as to try to balance or science could also counter act magic)...they would be like using WoW's current system on different severs or zones (since in some you can fly while others only ground mounts) but with a way to travel back and forth.

Then as the game keeps going we could add worlds each with their own twist like a sci-fi cyberpunk with no magic or whatever

Reminds me of the Dresden File or October Daye books. Could be a lot of fun to have a game in a modern world with a fantasy world you can cross through.

Sounds interesting.

How do you keep from having people bring an assault rifle into the kings court?

by worlds i mean like actual planets, so getting from magic world to Urban magic world, you'd need some sort ship that would be powered by magic while in magic space and then some sort human power system if it's in a world that doesn't use magic at all. Unless we just went with portals for transporting between worlds

Honestly, portals between is just easier than orchestrating shipping between worlds.

Not sure, depends on how high the technology is in the more modern world. If tech is high, Stargate, if its low, smaller personal sized portals.

Cute notion, but beside the point. The point being if you have "Camelot" connected to "Sin City" its not long at all until Camelot isnt Camelot cause its full of guns and drugs. Even if there are wizards and such, technology would make a huge impact.

Unless there was some sort of emancipation grid.... or you came through the portal and was spit out naked or something so you couldnt bring stuff.
