In the live game I was at this past weekend, my DM used a lot of music from YouTube for when we were sitting in a tavern. He also used it in a post on our gamegroup's forums when describing the bar. I don't have a handy listing of bar music on hand, but having the proper music helps the immersion, so I thought I should do some digging around and link some in. Not necessarily for my use, but for any DM who finds the music appropriate for their setting to link it in to help set the mood. So, here's a few I've found, hopefully people will post more. (a lot of the titles are gonna be very similar if not the same since I just searched "tavern music")

Various songs by Gaelic Storm

Slingshot by Gaelic Storm

Human Tavern Music from Blizzard

Tavern Music 1 from Dragon Age II

In my tinkering with roll20 I've found that if I ever ran a game there I'd definitely have music backing both the fights and certain roleplay scenes. Nothing loud enough that people have to yell over it, but just a nice ambiance to set the mood.

Warcraft 2 - Orc Theme 3

In fact almost all of the Warcraft 2 music clips hosted on that Youtube channel make for good background music for the sort of stuff you'll run into in D&D and such. Warcraft 3 also has some good songs especially with the introduction of the Undead you get some decent crypt and dungeon style music.

And of course WoW is a fount of instrumental music of most every mood:

Yeah, probably my favorite game too. Actually, I'm surprised I never got into D&D considering how much I enjoyed those games. Maybe I'll look into it.

4th edition isnt the most popular edition but its a super easy way to get into the d20 world and learn how stats / checks /modifiers etc all work.

From there its a quick step to rocking out 3.5 and Pathfinder with the 'cool kids'.

Always loved this song. Kinda distracting since people think of Boondock Saints, but it's still good background music.

I explored a lot of Chinese jazz for my setting but it's obviously not as easy to find, especially Cantonese stuff since a lot of Chinese jazz was based in Shanghai.

"Waiting for Your Return" by Bai Guang, one of my faves

There's also some stuff from the Legend of Korra soundtrack but most of the youtube uploads focus on the non-jazz instrumentals, not to say that the non-jazz tracks aren't really great too.

this has the whole soundtrack so it's a mix of both the jazz and non-jazz tracks

other styles. first is a drinking song i think is fun, second is cantonese hip-hop
