Hey guys, just setting up this post to speak on the behalf of the Coalition War Game. The game lasted 13 years on the Wizards of the Coast Boards.

Well, it was something we wanted to bring back at some point, do you have the permissions on the website to bring it back? Most of the links seem broken now....

Yeah, round 7 was just getting started when the forum transition buggered up everything. There were about five of us then, but while I'd be interested in relaunch I haven't heard from most of those who were around at the Boardpocalypse -- TGL and Pacone. I'd certainly be interested in resurrecting the wargame at any time, and I can say it was a total blast from the past to see your name posting.

I should probably make a post on the group, where anyone can find the breadcrumb.

If you'd like to stick around, we've got a nice community going here, and if you'd like me to keep in touch if and when (when, I hope) we resurrect the Wargame, PM me some contact info and I'd be more than happy to drop you a line. :)

Squints - I'll touch base with Myst and Daniel (TGL) to see if they still have admin privileges over the old site.

Tevish - Round 7. Wow it took a long time to finish those first three rounds lol. Sorry to see the game go into disrepair over the past few years. It was a solid game, but sometimes it could be draining as well.

Howdy ClaudeVsAshton! Welcome to NGA.

I've been around the CWG boards a few times over the years but never actually too part in the game itself: I've mostly rubbed elbows with the community in the off-topic areas and such unfortunately. I have been interested in getting a version of it up and running here, and have been since NGA launched, but I didnt want it going unless we had the people support it.

If we did rouse up the people to get the project going though I'm pretty the space could made and it could find a home here relatively easy.

It was a solid community. Very good friends were made, both Coalition and Phyrexian. I always am a bit Nostalgic whenever something in regards to Magic pops up. (I haven't played it in a few years now). I was a Sophomore in high school when the game began. We were debating on whether Squee was dead initially in a thread in novels discussion when it suddenly turned into a game format, where we would fight the battles lol

It took ages just to get the first round done because trying to create a game from scratch amongst a bunch of teenagers was near impossible. There were "weddings" along the way, and we built our own community in which to live in, if not just for a bit. It was a great time, and I think a community like this would be ripe for such a revitalization.

You can count me in, of course! I was in middle school when it started, believe it or not, and I honestly think my experiences in the Wargame helped me with college applications, listing and explaining it as an extracurricular, seeing as the only school I did that for was the one I got into. Really, I was involved for so long and at a critical point in my life where I had few if any meatspace friends that I honestly couldn't say how I'd be different if the Wargame wasn't a thing that existed.

Time to change my sig again!

The game helped each of us in it's own ways. Networking across the world. Development of social skills. Strategic thinking. Planning development. Most definitely creative thinking. It also allowed each person to step outside of themselves, and see thing in a completely different perspective. It was a game in which you had to adapt at a seconds notice to all of the changes that occurred as the game formed. These moments early in our lives shape us into the men and women we become.

I still hate Phyrexians :p

Man, I havent talked to Myst in ages. Myst is the one that gave me my custom avatar back in 2004 or so...one of the main reasons I'm "Bounty Hunter" rather than my previous screennames... I stuck to using the account with the CA instead of the others.

I'm out of touch with Magic as well but still quite fond of both the Invasion and Odyssey block flavor.

CWG was a good community, in fact all of the WotC PBP groups were pretty awesome, and it be nice to see some of those faces around these parts for sure. I've dropped a few links for NGA in the CWG boards of the course of this site's life but WotC was mostly dead by then saddly.

Dont forget to utilize the wiki, could be quite the tool for getting rules and such in place and easy to find.

Ahoyhoy!

CvA just stopped by with the desire to revive the ol' War Game, we art game, rather missed the opportunity for writing strategies and things, even just the occasional OSMQ. We hath needed to resort to writing other things instead, it hast been quite disgraceful! With a lack of large axes and explosions too! (Although we hath become more ... err ... 'red' since >.>). Still see some of the old veterans around occasionally too.
Anyway, apologies for disappearing way back when ourselves, aye?

We still hath all the information (old armies, bases/strongholds, although only 9 of the terrain features and 17 defenders, judging documents, maps - still the terrible ones we drew though, and terrain square), so that's there. We just couldn't bring ourselves to delete the information, just in case. No longer hath access to the site however, but we hath pestered Murica for that one, so fingers crossed he'll get back to us soon enough. So, well, the information part is fine, just the setup to go, as long as enough people art around and willing. In a pinch since most of the armies art there already no need to worry about the whole proxy business.

We will let thee know how site poking aroundness goes, aye? And Be sure to let us know how else we can help! Would rather like to be able to induce pointless slaughter of things for fun again!

So...is someone going to post any info on what this game actually is? You know, for those who didn't play on the old forum?

Its um ... quite in depth ... and would likely need its own web of wiki pages to break down all the rules.

But its a play by post combat game on a massive scale between The Coalition and The Phyrexians from the MtG storylines. Instead of controlling your character like you would in D&D you'll be commanding armies as you try to sway the battle towards your side.

More info can be found over on the mothership guides but a lot of that stuff is broken and disused.

Man, if only the post directly above yours made a stab at describing it in layman's terms and then linked to the guide for it back where it originated.

Good news! Everything should be fine and Murica will be looking to see why the site went a little wibbly when he gets back from holiday later next week. So that part is goodness and the thing to worry about is divvying up the various duties and sides once hath sufficient numbers set.
(Murica is working rather a bit still down Romania way, when not on holiday mind thee. He's a project manager in a big shiny place that we hath no idea where it is, huzzah! Otherwise things be good it seems, but was rather a short natter)

Trapped Slider; Questions all good, we art all happy to help, and it makes for an opportunity to alter anything to make it easier to understand if need be. There's a lot there, but it really is a more intuitive than appearances would indicate. Give a poke if thee would like to try creating an army and writing a strategy to see if it is something that appeals - and also a part that can be arranged without the great big mess of other stuff.

I remember you
You approached the M:EM
That was long ago

We have grown since then
Not by much I assure you
We're still the same nerds

Still I'm rather sure
Most would be interested
If they find the time

Speaking for myself,
I might need a bit of help
Before diving in

(As an aside, though
I will have the same problem
When school starts again)
