I know there's another thread for pokemon but showdown has a lot of alternate and weird formats. I just did this in balanced hackmons, a format where any pokemon gets any abilities and moves, except there's a few things banned like pure power and wonder guard.

So, PvP battles without needing to grind at all? It's okay, I guess, but not quite my idea of fun.

It's all teambuilding basically, which is the only real part of pokemon. Jk.

I can see it as a good exercise for planning your team for the actual game, but aside from that, it just seems silly.

There's multiple formats though, which is kinda the point. So you aren't forced to use Op trash and legend bs and play real pokemon like emolga. :V

I don't know what that means. I only ever played Blue and Red.

They have a gen 1 simulator too, even with gen 1 move glitches and stats.

That's oddly dedicated.

I appreciate that there is a mute button, but a volume control would be nice. Even at 50% it came through delightfully loud.

The Dunsparce team reminds me of my 6x Haunter team back in Red.

Its the same thing as making an area for D&D characters that are all some predetermined level. Sorta like the one you're starting in PBP.

You're skipping out on the roleplay, the experience point grinding, and the collecting items... just to tinker around with practice combat and experiment with team building and strategy. Theres a lot of games that allow you do do similar 'free play' options.

I view it pretty differently since Play By Post moves so slowly and it could take weeks or months to get into combat, that having a game for it could have been fun. Sadly, no one really seemed into it. But for a video game, I dunno, it just kinda feels boring to min-max and see what happens.

Many video games have an area / survivial / quick play mode if you didnt feel like or didnt have the time for the campaign at a given moment.

They have one for each gen so far, it's fun.

Considering the fan base, it seems like the proper choice.

Do they have preset gym leaders and the like to test against, or just PvP?

I usually just play with maraxas, sometimes random people. There might be bots you can fight but I don't know of any.

I couldn't find any bots.... was kinda hoping there were some for practice.

Makes sense though, real players are very hard to emulate. There's a lot of intuition involved. You can always play with Vektor or maraxas or me. We are pretty good but not pro, and usually play themed silly teams, so it would give you some nice practice.

Just expect to wait about 15 minutes because I will probably need to make a new team. Little cup is my favorite format if you want to play sokmethibg I have teams for.
