@NeoSilk: Muwahahahaha! I feel so evil!

Okay, first order of business I guess is how "helpful" are we willing to be with each other?

I'm not asking anyone to claim, but how does everyone feel about sharing information about the circle they are in?
That doesn't have anything to do with roles, and could be beneficial later on in the game, without making everyone travel up and down and sideways in the process. It could be strategic at points.

We could also nominate one person to not post each canto until we've as a majority come to an agreement? Again, it could be strategic, but also a hassel to that person. For today I'd suggest we "wing it" and just see how it goes, but we could give serious thought to "Each canto we nominate a player to not post the next canto (until we're ready for it)." Or even, not post for three RL days or something.

My two cents on both those topics:
1) I think it would be worthwhile.
2) I think it doesn't really matter today, but moving forward, I think we should nominate a player to hold on posting for some time. I say nominate, because something just screams fishy about a player who volunteers for this.

Welcome to hell mortals! I, your diabolical host, have taken the liberty of laying out the finest of tortures to be found within these nine layers for your enjoyment. Feel free to indulge your darkest desires to the fullest extent - after all these are the last days of your miserable lives are they not? Let us dance the danse macabre and tear each other apart!

*cough*

Or 'hey guys it's good to be back. How y'all doing? Good to be back in the insanity hot seat.

Preview Edit
So just to confirm everyone has a role, a alignment, a win condition and a layer of hell they are currently on. I'd actually be more than willing to reveal my layer of hell and even other information should the benefits proof nice.

For example I am interested in alignment. I wonder, for example, how many people are Divinely aligned? Is it a one-man band trying to fight his way through hell? It could very well be so - from what I understand there is no 'mafia chat' in this game so it's everyone for themselves. What of the comedies with there varying motives? Could they prove allies of the divinely aligned? This game is very very interesting and it has only just begun!

just to make sure everyone's clear, regular mafia strategy does not apply. we are not a town trying to seek out a small but powerful mafia, we are a pair of teams trying to locate a single individual each. I'm not going to claim my alignment because I'm honestly not sure which one we're all supposed to pretend we are. but trying to ferret out people by connections is largely irrelevant here because pretty much everyone on the opposing team is largely irrelevant here. which means we're just kinda shooting in the dark, I guess? lovely. and there's no night phase, so no NK. great. so this basically isn't mafia.

anyway, we're in it so might as well. VOTE: Scarlet. no particular reason. I honestly don't know how to approach this at all. claiming information might be nice. we can claim layers I guess, if people are ok with that. I suspect that alignment-claiming will be fruitless, and it'd probably help both sides, although if numbers are unbalanced it helps the larger one more. although Dante and Lucifer can just wait til the end and then claim whichever side looks larger. but then we could just lynch the last two people to claim and have a good shot at just ending this. that seems unsatisfying though. we could do Dethy protocol and have a forced order, but with only 5 days I don't know if that works, especially with my impending semi-absence.

man, I don't know what to do here.

@Alt - I agree with the telling people what circle you are in. Not really sure at this point how helpful it will be later in the game, but, any info is good info, right?

@Garren - I'm a bit hesitant to start claiming alignment this early. I know my alignment, but I've got no idea how many (if any) have the same alignment, and, if someone's (or multiple people) have win-cons of "get rid of all people with X alignment", it would just be setting them up to have an easy win.

Either way, I've got a feeling this is going to be quite a blast to play....

I'll even start out - I'm pretty deep in hell - the 8th circle. I've got no idea what powers are associated with it. It's fraud...so, it's really anyone's guess. It would not shock me that it has something to do with votes, so...when we get our first vote count, we might be able to figure something out.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not letting info out is a good thing here.
Normal mafia instincts scream NO at me, but this obviously isn't really a mafia game anymore, and I have no clue how we'd get anywhere without letting info out.

Hahaha! It's funny cause it's true. Although it now occurs to me that claiming layers may have some innate issues involved. Assuming this little game follows some narrative flow then Dante will be on the 1st Layer so we simply lynch whoever claims that and call it a day. Especially problematic since apparently we know who shares a level with us (or is that just me?) so even if they lie the demon on level 1 will know immediately.

I'm pretty sure that Zinger said people were on random levels. I assume it's true for everyone.
I also know that at least 1 person is on the same level as myself.

@ST - yeah, I think sharing too much info is not a good idea, however unlike a normal mafia game this is, but, I really don't see the harm in sharing what level everyone is in, especially since people can move between Cantos. Well...we know Garren can only go one way!

I'm willing to give Zinger the benefit of the doubt on balancing the game to not be so easily breakable by flavor. furthermore, even if you're right and Dante's on the first, any demon there can simply claim right now that they know who else is on their layer. then we lynch those people and, if none of them are Dante, we lynch the guy who claimed. so even without a circle claim, following obvious flavor like that would be poor design on Zinger's part. so I'm willing to assume that Dante was not explicitly put in the first circle. (whether or not he wound up there for other reasons I do not know.) anyway I'm sixth I think? I'm gonna go double check that, but I don't see the harm in claiming.

Yeah that would make sense from a game-play perspective. Still kinda odd if Dante just appeared in Lucifer's lounge two seconds into the game though.

As far as you know! I intend to burrow down to the elusive 10th layer of hell! The layer of hookers and blackjack!

You know I just noticed this and it intrigues me. *I* know what the powers of my layer are so I wonder if Neo is lying or merely trying to hide something here? How about the rest of you? You don't need to say what your layer does but do you have access to that information?

Isn't killing Dante the bad guys / potentially comedies task?

From what I understand yes. Which is why we were saying it would be odd to follow the logical narrative choice of having him appear on Layer One.

Okay, fair enough.
I was reading it as "Hey guys lets kill Dante", which is an obvious death sentence. Which is why I asked for clarification.

No hiding there. On the level of hell that I'm on, I know nothing about the powers.

without claiming anything about my individual role, the following rules excerpt heavily implies to me that Inferno players heavily outnumber Divine players:

Zinger2099 wrote:

that said, there's really no good guys/bad guys here, in a mechanical sense. neither party wants to wipe out the other, they both want to kill off a single, individual player. stop thinking like a mafia game, where you're looking for an enemy team. that's not the goal here.
