I almost feel I should apologize. I'm quite honestly quite ambivalent on the whole thing. On the one hand I will accept and work around just about anything that's finalized; while on the other I'd rather not facilitate baser expressions, especially when it invokes vilification and vitriol.
And all at the same time I feel I have no right to argue when it's kind of clear the group I hang around are allowed certain liberties that others can't seem to be granted.
Yeah, I do feel we of the A,F&S are "getting away with murder," as it were. Granted, there will always be distinct differences when mentioning
phallic imagery as opposed to saying
dick, but that would be true of any argument. As I said somewhere before, the key is maturity and openness/acceptance, not backlashes that have already had to be removed multiple times from this very section of the boards
.
I have given much more thought to George Carlin than I ought to have, and have long since come to the conclusion that it's not the words themselves that are the issue, but really the intent behind them. That's why, I believe, hate speech is being banned on these boards.
Meanwhile, I've meticulously danced around the subject while not answering a bloody thing, so where's my point? What's my stance?
Well, I think that some words
do carry baggage. If I were to be put on the spot, gun-to-my-head choosing words to block, these are the ones that come to mind:
****
****
Slut
****
Noticeably absent are ****, whore, cock and ****; and I would like to give a short reason why. For **** and **** both, I believe the occasional usage (not too liberal, but I know I couldn't stop anyone who wanted to) is acceptable, though I am a bit of a special case.* As for whore, I think saying "attention-whore" is a perfectly legitimate thing to say.** Cock is just my sick enjoyment; I love jokes that bait you into thinking dirty then turn around and act all innocent.
* I have learned maybe 2 new curse words since I was 10 (to clarify, that's over a decade ago), but I don't actually curse all that often -- I virtually
didn't curse at all up until last year. I even know most English curse words' Spanish equivalent (learned during the same period).
** Though alone it really seems to have no value. If I could, I would set some sort of filter to only select stand-alone versions of the word, but I know that idea already has a bigger whole than the galactic nucleus.

While I feel it slightly undermines my point, I'm glad to see that all but one of the words I chose as "blockable" are already "blocked."
