Sorry for the late replies guys.

Hey, I know this is going to sound stupid, but I need to ask this question: could I, theoretically, join in without reading most of what's already happened? I worry that if I try to join after something has started happening -say, players adventuring far from the starting point- I would end up being obtrusive.

Also, I'm supposed to be concentrating on my duties in the M:EM, so don't expect me too soon. If I'm going to join anything, it will be when I can devote a bit of time to it.
Sure! You just need the right IC excuse. ;) Something like your character bumping into the party and wondering aloud what's happening, etc.

@Confused: Yeah, you're *encouraged* to do that, actually. Just try not to have more than one person control the same NPC unless an arrangement's been worked out beforehand.

So.... this kinda fizzled out, huh? Seems like this is pretty difficult to keep it going without a DM.

Come up with a story arc. A goal to work towards, and discuss it here in the OOC.

Just a loose mission statement as it were.

Well, we have the Coup that trappedslider was going on about, though didn't he vanish? Not sure how to follow him for that one... do people want to keep going with that, or is this kinda just dead?

What we need to realize is that in a Freeform RP, a lot of personal initiative is necessary. Unlike other PbPs where the DM guides players to where he wants them to go, for Freeform, players need to actively seek out stuff to do.

For example, in this case, someone can accept the invitation to the princess' birthday party. I've already established that my characters will be attending, so the invitation slot can be given to someone else. Then if we go along this tangent, sooner or later trappedslider will make a thread about the birthday party, and things will happen from there. :)

trappedslider introduced another story hook you can latch onto as well, so there are other options. :)

Side Note: In a non-Freeform PbP, something like trappedslider's invitation would probably be compulsory for characters, but in a Freeform RP you can choose to reject it or, like me, attend the party in another way. :)
