Alright.

Finally caught up on this.

Man, a lot of these are cool. I am especially a fan of the Coin - it seems like there's a really, really good story to be told in there. Somewhere.

I also have been enjoying how these are being formatted. The notes are concise, but given feeling, and I enjoy watching Raleris and Maral "interact" passively through them.

Good stuff! If you're taking requests, however, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more weapons. >:]

Yeah, that's real evocative, and one of the more disturbing and intriguing objects in Maral's collection.

Facing against the ring might be an interesting endpoint to Kirsh's Madness arc, although who knows when that might happen.

Now that Wild Card is out, I have the last few of the planned artifacts to work on, though it might still be a couple of days before the next one surfaces.

Yeah, it's one that I'd really like to see more fully realized just because... well, it's there and it just seems like there's so much going on there.

It's helped me get a lot of the voice for them down.

I'll... see what I can do. I promise nothing though, because at least one weapon is going to be added in real time soon.

This one is the one I felt demanded prog metal.
I thought it fit.

Update:
Expect an update on Thursday. Hopefully I'll be able to finish off writing all of them, which will then just be an issue of posting them.

The Winter Heart

And this seems like the most appropriate place to discuss something about one of Maral's items. Originally, I had said that she had managed to replicate Akmon, Purphoros's Hammer, but as time has worn on, I've decided that I'm not that fond of the idea. I still intend for her to have worked in his workshop and basically stolen a lot of his secrets, but I'd rather save the application of that for when she starts working on replicating Godsend.

I like the Winter Heart (as you may have suspected) and I particularly like the history it helps to flesh out. I'm certainly curious about what might eventually happen storyline-wise with it and the Inferno Amulet.

I'm in favor of holding off on the replicated hammer. That seems wise to me.

Hey, backstory for Kokkinos! Awesome! I like this a lot, particularly the way it fleshes out Kokkinos as not always quite so blizzard-bound. And it's a fun counterpart to the Inferno Amulet. The implications of them being linked are intriguing.

I think the idea of the Godsend Replica being her real crowning achievement from studying with Purphoros. Still a bit shaky on how that will work with Raleris's timeline though... >_>

I meant to make some passing mention of Keld in there too, but... forgot.
Maral has been to Keld though.

Anyways, yeah. I've tried to lay story hooks in places, like with the Coin and the Cloak, and the Amulet and Heart being linked is a way to take both in a guided direction without too much work.

Momentai.
And yeah, making another Godsend because she studied in Theros is a better thing than having Akmon, but I still don't view it as her actual limit. It's not an easy thing for her to do, but it sure as hell isn't her ceiling either.

I've been considering the matter. I have all of the planned FtV artifacts written now*, but very few of them are weapons. Godsend and, even though she doesn't have it, I do consider it to be part of this set, the Blade that Cuts Eternity.

All of these things I've put together have sort of had a level of both transplanar nature and a shared threshold of power. Anyways, I've been turning it over and I think I could do a sequel series "From the Vault: The Armory" which are just legendary weapons that Maral has collected in her travels. While they might be mystic in nature, they won't have the same significance as the items in the first FtV. So, who would be interested in me doing that?

*There are two more left to post.

I think it's a pretty good idea. I'll certainly be interested in seeing what kind of diversity you come up with for the weapons. And I think you'll have more to work with by not limiting yourself with artifacts that necessarily have shifted planes.

Well, I've already got 15 weapons outlined for the Armory, whenever that starts up, but for now, here's the next entry in the original series.

The Soulstone

Hm, there's something odd about the end of this... I know the narrative is patchy but it seems odd that it jumps from the planeswalker to the healer with no mention even of missing information, and it's odd that he describes the dwindling of a family but doesn't actually explain what that means.

I also almost wonder if the powers of the stone here are overly broad. The stone seems to do a LOT of different stuff, much of which would be reasonable just on its own.

That said, I like the whole soul visualization thing you've got going here. That's interesting stuff.

I'm not going to lie, this one was a pretty big struggle to put together. It's the idea I had the least solid basing in, but I didn't want to cut it.

It was something that I thought carefully about, and while it does look pretty broad, I tried to think of what was at the heart of manipulating a soul would have been. Essentially it only has four abilities, all of them centered around the Soul.

I like the soulstone overall. I've been replaying Skyrim lately, and so the name "soulstone" is sending me some red flags, but it's a small matter. I had the same reaction as Keeper about the range of abilities, but I'm kind of with you on the connectedness of them. The only real nitpick I have is that the write-up lacks some of the discursive quality between Raleris and Maral that your other artifacts seem to have. Again, not a big thing, just a point of divergence.

[EDIT]: Oh, yeah, and I did find it odd that the thing seemed to go from Kadi to young woman to healer family, the end. Compared to some of the other ones, there doesn't seem to be enough there to have caught Raleris's or Maral's attention in the first place.

All that said, though, I do like it, overall.

Yeah, this was by far the the weakest of them, but honestly, it ended up being the most problematic artifact and the last one that I had to get a write up for, so by the time I managed it, I was... pretty tapped on this front.
Oddly, it doesn't seem to have impeded my creativity for The Armory. I think it's just because I'm working in a slightly different headspace.

I've found that before, too, with other projects. It's a cool, if odd, phenomenon.

Well, I still have one more artifact for the original FtV, then I have no idea when I'll start working on The Armory, even though I've got lots of the outlines laid down.

One nifty thing though, is that the Armory will flip things around and have Maral initiate things and Raleris might chime in one a few of them.

That is a cool inversion, I think. So, is the implication that Maral is more interested in weapons than non-weapon artifacts, or is that incidental?

It's more about the fact that these are things that Maral found on her own rather than being sent to find. Just stuff she's run across in her travels. The fact that these are weapons have to do with Ruwin's suggestion for more weapons.
