I decided there was space for a thread completely dedicated for stupid, innocent, nonsensical, and useful (for secret projects) questions, and this is that thread.

Anyone who wants to ask a question on the M:EM planes, characters, or minor details can feel free to do so. If nothing else, I'll occasionally bump this thread with stupid questions about things I'll never explore.

So, to start out:
Noggles vs, Facial Hair
How does facial hair grow on the noggles on Jakkard? Do they just have whiskers that don't grow as they age or can they have a mighty mustache or burly beard or anything like that?

Oh wow uh you know I'm not sure if noggles with mustaches are too silly or not, it's causing a real crisis for me over here

Like, I already cannot figure out how to draw noggles at all, to be honest, I've tried doing concept art of them and they're the one race in all of Jakkard that I can't get a handle on, so would adding mustaches make things worse or better? I don't know! I already can't figure out how to draw them! MY FAN ART CAREER IS ALL A LIE

[has a breakdown]

God knows why, but, in my head, I always seem to picture the noggles with beards like Dr. Teeth from The Muppet Show.

The inside of my head is, clearly, a strange place.

EDIT - I'm now desperately hoping that this doesn't make Keeper's crisis of noggle-mustache-faith any worse.

You know what that could actually look pretty interesting.

I think part of the problem is that Nogs are just this aggressively cartoonish race of creatures, and I have trouble with cartoonish. And on top of that, a lot of the Jakkard stories have been fairly down to earth and often pretty gritty, and Nogs just feel very slapstick to me.

So the Dr Teeth beard totally, totally fits that look! I just have no idea how to actually make it work visually in my style.

It doesn't help that I almost exclusively have practiced drawing people rather than animals, let alone donkeys.

I would throw my money in that they don't have facial hair, but the muzzles might get darker as they get older.
Maybe enough of a few stray hairs that get long enough to be something like a little porcupine-esque beard.

Clearly, Mel Odrum's refusal to be a big man to the Noggles, combined with his defining love of a good mustache, indicate that Noggles, in fact, do not have facial hair.

Of course, that relies on Mel Odrum's Attic being canon...

...which it shouldn't be.

I like the idea of the sorta bristly porcupine beard. It provides opportunity for sort of a hobo aesthetic, which could be kinda fun.

Oh, I love that. There's so much hobo culture tied-up in the Western myth, and we haven't really done much with it.

I think maybe you mentioned this before, Raven, but does Jade NEED to eat, or does she just do it as a matter of course?

That's a really good question. She has a tongue that works more or less like it did before, so I imagine her internal organs and such work somewhat similar to normal, although her aging process is slowed considerably, if not completely stopped.

So I would say it's open for interpretation, leaning towards needing to eat, but maybe only occasionally? I have no justification for this, however.

What planes would be a good place to find very pretty gemstones?

Interesting. And her senses are dulled somewhat, right, so she probably wouldn't get as much out of eating as she used to...

I mean it could just be a good way of keeping her grounded in the mortal world. (See: Urza and needing/not needing to sleep)

@Dr Demento:

Jakkard would be an obvious start! But those gemstones are pretty volatile.

Yeah, that is my interpretation. She's a catfolk, who has lost a lot of those super-sharp senses she knew her whole life. Very tragic... :plot:
[EDIT]: I suddenly wish there was a "stroking goatee" smilie...

Yeah, I considered having the gemstones serve functional value, but these gemstones are just for aesthetic value.

Second question though, what planes have unique looking fauna and would have artists.

(I may or may not know nothing about M:EM)

Alright, quick question. Could you breed creatures summoned from other worlds to establish a population on your own plane? Summoned creatures only stick around for a limited time right? So could you do it as long as the gestation period was short enough?

They'll apparently hang around for a bit, but eventually fade away, according to Doug.*
I don't think they'd hang around long enough for the gestation period, and even then, it would probably not create a real creature. At the very least, you'd have to create an absurd summoned base population if you hoped to jump start the localization. I don't think anyone could handle that many summon spells quick enough.

*In fairness though, Ravnica was a dumping ground for walker duels, hence the diversity of the population.

Could you breed summoned beasts into a local population though? Like if you didn't have poodles in your world, but you had, I don't know shih tzus, could you make a living crossbreed that way? Assume that the female is the one on your own plane.
The gestation part makes sense, but it seems weird to me that summoned beings couldn't produce offspring. I mean, for the time they're there, they're real living beings, right?

Actually Amaran, the rwu continent on the wedge world of Sertaria, would be a good start for that! Not sure what all fauna there is, although there's probably some interesting mythological stuff, but their society is VERY oriented towards craft and artistry of all sorts.

Still thinking about the gem question. There are definitely mines on the continent of Dellity on Ikass, but I'm not sure how much of that is gems and how much is lost terrible artifacts... (the mines howl).

Another question bounced into my head a while back but now I lost it again. Hrm.

Not... reeeeaally... exactly...
They're more along the lines of caricatures of living beasts. They are what you need when you need it, but they don't exist much beyond their function. Unless you knew the intricacies that went into their biology, like to a cellular level, you wouldn't be able to reproduce them accurately enough.

If you knew them THAT deeply though, it would require a lot more mana to realize that depth of intricacy, and at that point, you wouldn't be summoning them, you'd be full on CREATING them like Sorin created Avacyn.

Ah, shame. I was brainstorming a planeswalker who bred dogs. I guess I can always show a latent green side through horticulture too. Seeds are easy to bring back.
