R/U seems fairly obvious given that we've picked Cosmos.

Moonfolk.

Yes?

I think Moonfolk are always interesting to see what we can do with. They have a lot of freedom since when we step away from the rabbit motifs that defined them in Kamigawa, we have a lot fewer constraints than normal.

I have no real reason why, but I'm leaning away from humans. Now, this might be slightly problematic, because for equally unknown reasons, I am leaning TOWARDS centaurs.

I dunno, I still lean towards humans in white. Though by the same merit, I'd actually be good with them in green or black if we want to court Leonin for white.

We also haven't used Moonfolk much at all in M:EM which is a plus. I mean... besides the obvious big name exception.

Where would humans and centaurs go exactly?

Personally, I would love to drop the druidic/nature emphasis on Centaurs and get closer to their original mythological nature, which I believe is or maybe . Humans probably belong in to be honest.

That would put centaurs with either Time or... well, that's pretty much it, unless we drop Moonfolk in R/U.

So, centaurs for Order vs Chaos, coming out to Time? How well does that work?

Not sure where crabfolk fit though :P

Humans if we're going with Black either fit Life/Death (Fate) or Substance/Void (Being? Form?)

I kind of thing Substance/Void should be something a little more... alien, honestly. Not sure what exactly that would be though.

And of course the remaining is One/All (The World).

Cephalids.

Nantuko?

Cephalid Nantuko.

Yes. Squid-Mantis people. It's perfect.

(Uh, what colors are substance/void again?)

/. But it's funny, I was thinking of Cephalids, myself. We could put them in and show that just because you're an undersea creature doesn't mean you have to be .

Conversely, we could put them in the / Movement/Stillness camp.

I haven't been part of this thread much at all, but I think that idea is sort of cool. Especially if they can camouflage themselves while standing still - like an octopus! Plus you can play off the whole "the water is still on the surface, but rushes in the deep."

Quicksilver could maybe be used? *Shrug* Seems like something that could be a liquid or a solid at any given time would encapsulate that well.

Also: Underwater volcanic geysers. You know you want it.

I do, actually. Alright, I'm officially nominating Cephalids for . Seriously.

You know, I considered them for w/b too but dismissed the idea.

I mean... three people all considering the same thing is rather suggestive of being Onto Something...

But Barinellos hates cephalids so don't hold your breath :P

It's a very different take on the Movement/Stillness binary than Moonfolk would be, if we used them for r/u in place of Moonfolk. It could be pretty interesting.

Still, I think Substance and Void would be interesting as well for the octopus camouflage angle, particularly with the Positive/Negative space thing I mentioned before.

I don't think Cephalids have really ever been done well. I mean, they mostly showed up in the Otaria storyline, and their entire story arch was dominated by Ambassador Laquatus, a merfolk. I think they deserve a chance!

But also, it is just a suggestion, so if Barinellos is dead set against them, that's fine. I'm not big into the Moonfolk, but I'm sure we can get them to work.

But they're so CUUUUUUTE! D: Look at them! Llawan, Cephalid Empress

Ehehe.

And here I thought you would've had a predilection for strange, be-tentacled squid people, Barinellos! But then, I guess mind-shattering incomprehensibility and eldritch rage-fire is more your thing, yeah?

Oh, look my fingers are falling off. Haha.

*paws at the blood on the keyboard with fingerless palms*

Personally, I've never really seen cat-folk in white. Cats are so often solitary creatures, white's focus on community seems off to me. I like them better in green, personally. Actually, thinking about it, maybe they would be a good fit for our One/All, One/Many, Blue/Green dynamic.

Did Jade have a plane, or just an island named in her backstory?

Just a thought that occurred to me.

Just an Forested Island, called Neira. She was from a tribe of Tiger catfolk called the Sanvas

I didn't think so. Something to keep in mind then, if we do decide to go with u/g catfolk.

It would be an interesting possibility, and we would have a tiny bit of culture already developed...

Yeah, I'm killing the Cephalid idea.
I have used them in the past, but they are absolutely NOT going here. (In the plane of Ahden, if anyone is curious.)

In the exact same way that you feel Cephalids have never been done well, the moonfolk were only ever seriously tied to the rabbit aesthetic of Kamigawa.

@Keeper: There's always the Soltari for white if you want alien.

I... actually sort of want goblins in for red to be honest. There's just a really solid corollary in the trickster aspect that resonates with goblins here. Plus, I'd really like to push them into an actual civilized society... sort of. Point is, an advanced society instead of digging mudholes in the mountains.

NOW, that being said, we could still have red centaurs. But they wouldn't be characteristic. In fact, when you get down to it, they sort of CAN'T be. They sit in the 3/3 range, which makes them a mid selection.

Personally, I've never really seen cat-folk in white. Cats are so often solitary creatures, white's focus on community seems off to me. I like them better in green, personally. Actually, thinking about it, maybe they would be a good fit for our One/All, One/Many, Blue/Green dynamic.

The thing is that they most often attach it to lions, which are very social animals. I mean, the name is even taken from that: Leonin.

I was thinking maybe Satyrs for green.

I still have an idea for a world that would include black cephalids, so they'll have their day in the sun yet. :P

...Er, or day in the... gloomy bog. I guess. Hrm.

Can we really use Solitari? I was never super clear on how much of the Solitari nature was born of being caught half-in Rath. Of course, Kor were also pretty Rath-specific...
