The thing that bothered me most in DA2 is that there are only like 3 different maps for indoor quests and they just have different doors that are open for some arbitrary reason.
Pretty sure there were even more maps that kept being repeated, but as someone who plays every sidequest in stuff like this, this is the thing that I remembered most.

I do think I should probably replay them both soon with DA3 around the corner.

I looked up that Joystiq article about Games For Windows Live and the games which should/should not work, and I have to ask confirmation because I have my eye on it: If I were to buy Dark Souls (Prepare to Die edition) on Steam, would it play on my computer period?

To add a little to the discussion happening, I'm in roughly the same situation as Lily, in that the money I spend on games approaches 0 over time; maybe I'll spend an average of like $5/month, but I'm really against spending a large amount on a single item. I noticed Skyrim being really cheap but I have my eye on other games and I remember having problems with the little I played of a friend's Oblivion.

Theres a comic somewhere, I cant find it at the moment, where a person gets jumped by a sneaking figure and they put make up all over his face and then vanish. And the last frame has the guy saying "Damn Rouges"

You know, cause the word is 'Rogue'.

I'm not sure if it's the one you're looking for, but I know DLC did it.

Until July 1st? It depends if you can get past the GFWL boss.

Starting July 1st? It depends if they actually shut down the servers and/or Namco Bandai does anything about it.

So the verdict is........ you may or may not be able to play the game.

So far, the first one took me 12 hours to get working and the second one still doesn't work. I wouldn't recommend getting them on pc regardless. You should get it on a console for $11 and wait for the price of the second one to drop on that console before getting it too.

Really long story short? The games are totally worth it IF THEY WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER. Unfortunately, that is not a given. :(

Edit: Just found this. Microsoft has FINALLY SAID SOMETHING.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/22/583168 ... -microsoft

This means you should be able to play the first one with no problems. If you need help getting past the Games for Windows Live boss, then Jack could probably help. It's a 12 hour process and I think I have it recorded here somewhere. Your game will start to work somewhere between the rain dance and the running of the bulls.

This means Jack can also FINALLY stop grinding for new game plus and leave the game alone for a while.

smartass reply

I just didn't particularly enjoy the 3-hour treks through empty wilderness in trying to reach the next quest location, I didn't enjoy the combat, and being able to make your own spells made the experience via use concept pointless as soon as my friend pointed out that you can make a spell that has so low a mana cost that it regenerates as fast as the cooldown between castings. It was the Xbox version, probably the 360 but I am not sure on that point.

@ Jack: That... Doesn't actually make me feel any better. Those statements sounded kinda vague to me. I'd rather know that there is a definitive workaround/substitute to GFWL in place for playing Dark Souls before buying it, because if they do pull the plug two years from now I'll still consider myself screwed.

I still keep up with it, despite barely having played wow these past four or so years.

Long story short?

It may or may not take a non-negligible amount of work to get the game running on your pc due to GFWL. However the issues involved are ones you should be able to get around eventually if they pop up. There's also just as much of a chance it will work perfectly fine the first time too. So..... meh.

If you really need help, there is a 90% chance Jack will be able to help you due to aforementioned 12 hour @$#@fest where Jack tried some 20 odd solutions. One of them has to work out at some point if you have any problems. Because at least for the first game the problem is usually GFWL which can be gotten around with some hard work.

As for whether or not GFWL will shut down eventually? Well...... even steam is going to shut down eventually. That is how pc gaming works. No one knows how long any of these services will be around, and Microsoft just said they would support it for the foreseeable future. That means it will probably be around for at least long enough that you should be able to get your fill out of the game. But the final answer is nobody knows anything and the company is now promising to support it 9 days before the rumored shutdown because they are too incompetent to deny said things more than a week in advance. So it looks like it will be supported for at least a while longer.

And as a disclaimer Jack is currently po'd because Dark Souls 2 does not work and this time it is not fixable. And it took another 8 odd hours to learn this was literally not fixable and Jack has to wait for new drivers to come out so that maybe, just maybe the game will work this time.

Edit: Also in hindsight, it seems people don't normally play DAO in the full zoomed out view only. That's the part where it's similar to LOL.

TankHammer and I finally got around to doing the Enter the Dominatrix DLC for Saints Row IV. Fan-freakin'-tastic.

Awesomenauts is now $1 for a limited time. If you like MOBAs, fighting games or just want to play an awesome game with me go get it now.

Gunpoint also just had a major update adding steam workshop support and a better level editor.

If you don't already own it and have any need to play a beat-em-up at all for any reason?

Yes.

It's one of the few xbla games I ever got that I thought was actually worth the price.

Just don't ever touch any of the dlc.

I know almost nothing about Dark Souls. What is the Games for Windows Live Boss? Is it a boss you can only beat when connected to Games for Windows Live or some BS?

Also, Faster than Light is for sale. You all need to buy it.

Doesn't that rather mean that the other classes were underpowered, not that the mages were op?

Mages in DAO have severly good AOE nuking spells but had little to nothing to do about close range combat. But the AOE nukes were so @#$@$ good that you didn't care as long as you put 1 or 2 ai tanks into the fray. In DA2 they scaled this back severely but made it so mages could survive melee as recompense. Overall, it was much much more balanced, and I think it makes mages better overall from a gameplay standpoint.

Rouges were not absolute crap. You just had to put all their points and such into making dualwielding better. And if you wanted to dualwield, a rogue was the way to go. A dualwielding rogue did crap-tons of damage over time.

I agree that all the stealth and crap sucked @#$@ though. Maybe a better way to put it is that Rogues weren't garbage but what you would consider to be their "traditional" role was.

That's fair. However, mages still out DPS'd rogues at most points in the game. The first character I made was a Rogue( like i do in any RPG) and I really tried to explore all avenues of possibility.
Also, bow & arrow wasn't too terrible. But again, not good enough to consider over 2x Tank 2x Mages.

187 games in my library and yet I actually look at the sales. I'll probably never find the time to finish everything I have, and yet I want more. Friggin' Steam Sales, they're toxic.
