They're related in that a reviewer from kotaku said if you like P&S you'll like KlK, so this is working backwards from there.

I don't think they're really similar, but if you're a fan of western animation as well as anime its a total riot (be warned its p gross at times and has monsters based on every kind of human fluid and waste)

Also I know KlK isn't doing anything totally different by just being episodic I just kinda expect more. During the last episode I was really hoping that the family rising the ranks would be a multiepisode thing.

Because it is probably the only one I'll do and it doesn't really fit in either of your topics. So let's bump the old anime topic with it:

Review: Dog Days + Dog Days'

Introduction
In the fantasy world of Flonyard there is a war going on between the nations of Biscotti (dog people) and Galette (cat people).
Galette is vastly superior and in a last plan to change the tide, the princess of Biscotti decides to use an ancient ritual called 'Hero Summoning'. Her eye falls on the young boy Cinque Izumi, who got a 2nd place at a Ninja Warrior-like contest at the age of 13.
Cinque turns the tide at the ongoing battle, but learns that once a hero is summoned, they cannot return to their own world. A fact the princess was also unaware of. While scientists try to figure out how to get Cinque back to his own world, he decides to play the role of hero some more.

When the conflict and problems of season 1 are resolved, Cinque returns in season 2 and brings two friends with him. His rival Nanami (who is also his niece and the #1 of the Ninja Warrior contest) and his childhood friend Rebecca (a gamer girl that has no special athletic skills). As expected, Nanami joins the nation of Galette as their hero, but a third nation of Pastillage (squirrels) kidnaps Rebecca with the intent of changing Rebecca into their hero.
Season two mostly are slice-of-life episodes with a small battle at the start and at the end of the season. But it mostly revolves around the 3 friends having fun in the world of Flonyard.

Appeal
Dog Days is an anime original story made by Mazaki Tsuzuki, known for his work on the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha series. He always likes to make things quite fluffy and colorful and Dog Days is the first time he could make things up without interference from other people. This means he also could do stuff with people with animal ears, which is a quirk of his that tends to get into his work.
The animal people thing also gets taken quite far with their instincts. They love being petted by each other in more relaxed environments and in later episodes, when the dog princess and the hero go for a walk, he plays frisbee with her, to which she acts like a dog including the running and jumping. Also dog commands.
And when they get wet? Flappy ears and tails of course.
The names are also full of food puns. And I think it's better to just like to a site that points to a few of them.
The amount of characters also means there is probably someone for everyone, but I just can't let this paragraph go without mentioning Yukikaze Panettone. She gets introduced as head of Biscotti's Ninja corps, is a blonde fox girl and talks in a quite old Japanese way. She's actually a god of fertility and one of the demon hunters.

And the wars?
They're a mix between Ninja Warrior and Takeshi's Castle. An athletic obstacle course with a final goal where strong knights or leaders protect the finish line.
Also Flonyard is actually protected by several gods. Every area where the gods are active, people cannot die. Instead they change into fluffy balls every time they get lethal damage or are kicked out of the event.
The wars are also a source of income for the people depending on how well they scored and the winning country also gets a nice bonus.
That said, not every area is protected by gods and demons do appear every now and then.

Next point are the weapons. Cinque and Nanami's favorite weapon is a bo staff, Rebecca gets magical weaponry based on danmaku games, the dog imperial knight captain uses dual blades, head knight lances, a ninja with mostly physical attacks, a samurai with a giant sword, a scientist builds ammunition. And this is just the more important characters of the dog army. With the exception of the cat head knight, every major cat and squirrel character uses different weaponry as well.

The voice cast is pretty awesome as well. A lot of the major and minor characters are voiced by popular voice actors in Japan. People like Norio Wakamoto, Nana Mizuki, Mamoru Miyano, Yui Horie, Ayane Taketatsu, Kana Hanazawa, Aoi Yuuki, etcetera. One of the first images made for Dog Days featured the VA's as main attraction:

And for season 2 it got a bit bigger
Spoiler

Negatives
Not all things are positive in the series though. Like said earlier, there is pretty much no big conflict so it is quite a sweet anime.
Also, the Imperial Knight Captain has a habit of reacting quite like a hardheaded tsundere towards the hero. People that watched Oreimo and remember Kirino will recognize her immediately.
It's a bit annoying in my opinion in season 1, but she gets quite a bit better. In the end she gets a bit redeemed during season two's Union Fest, in which she battles the cat ruler.

The rules of decency are also different from earth. Stronger knights and rulers think of being turned into a fluffy ball to be the ultimate humiliation, so if they suffer a major hit, the protective magic of Flonyard will instead destroy their weapons --> armor --> clothes. While I personally do not think it to be too disruptive, I can imagine that not everyone will like that fact.

Season two is also pretty devoid of any plot. It's basically a big vacation for the human heroes. But some people instead think DD should be light and fluffy and don't like the darker plot of the Season one ending. It's pretty rare to find people who like both seasons equally.

Season two teased a lot of the battles (which make up for the best part of the series imo), but more than a few are played out off-screen which annoyed quite a few fans.
Most notable is S2 episode 10 where the Squirrel Nation gets beat pretty badly and is in last place in the 3-way war event. In the final seconds a 'mysterious person' joins to help them and she faces the three young Biscotti players (Cinque the hero, the Imperial Knight Captain and Yukikaze). Cue ending of the episode and episode 11 starting with 'Squirrel Nation won!'
Fans all over were outraged to not see the mysterious person seriously in action for the first time since her introduction.

Verdict
If you manage to get past the first few of really annoying Eclaire/Cinque moments (standard 'you're a girl?' trope and stuff) in the first two/three episodes, you're in for quite a fun ride.
It could deliver far more on the main draw (the battles), but with a season three announced I can only hope it gets better.

Apparently everyone here loves themselves some animie ('here' being my location, not NGA) and now I find myself with several folders full of it on my external drive.

I think I shall start FMA : Brotherhood next chance I find myself with free time.

It's a good starter anime.

I highly disagree.
I have a hard time understanding how anyone can claim FMA:Brotherhood was good.
It was terrible in comparison to the manga. If you're going to do FMA, you read the manga.
Anything else is bad.

If you compare every anime to the manga you are going to miss out on a ton of good stuff. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood was a decent show on its own rights, and the phrase "it was terrible in comparison to the manga" is the equivalent of "I liked the book better than the movie". In most cases? There's a @#@$ good reason for that. It doesn't mean the movie sucks, and this anime certainly isn't bad.

I have neither the time nor desire to delve into manga currently... just have a ton of shows on my external drive and of all of theme I at least know I enjoy the setting and characters of FMA. I'll eventually try out some of the other stuff later.

The first three episodes disgusted me to the point I didn't want to watch the rest of it.
I still did. It got better... but still a far, far cry from the manga. I you had the time to spend on one, I'd spend it on the manga.
*And they're both available online, so IDK why you'd choose anime over the manga!*

Perhaps.... but as I've never read the manga, nor do I tend to at any foreseeable point in the future, I wont be comparing the show to the managa at every turn. I've actually heard nothing but good things about FMA Brotherhood, do you have anything negative that isnt 'its not like the book' ?

I already have the anime on my computer, have no desire to read the manga, and most of the time I'd spend watching it would be done somewhere I have zero access to the internet. That rather puts the animie leaps and bounds ahead of the manga as far as choices go. :V

The humor is awful, and Edward hogs the spotlight too much in the scenes he's present in. Alchemy isn't poorly explored, most of the alchemists using it in very similar fashions.

Well, it's not like it's that difficult to download manga, and having already downloaded it is sort of a wash since you could have spent that time downloading the manga instead if you wanted to.
I don't know what these areas are without internet, but in these scenarios, I'd probably be more inclined to read on my tablet than start up my laptop to watch something.

Another advantage with anime is that it's easier to share. I think most people find it more enjoyable to watch a film together than read a book together, although there are merits to reading a book separately and discussing it afterwards.

I think you meant is not isnt.

- - - -

No, its not that difficult to download manga in general, just not something I'm currently interested in. Additionally, I didnt download the anime I picked it and several other shows up from various people. I already have quite the backlog of books on my reading list and the time I spend on my ereader is spent hacking away about the 20+ books I want to get done.

If you werent aware, I'm deployed, and so a majority of my day is spent with no internet what-so-ever ... and the parts of it that do have internet arent anything capable of downloading much of anything. Its only partially relevant, but still.

Not Exactly An Edit : As if to prove a point, the internet went down as I tried to submit this and now I'm just sitting here waiting on it to come back online.

I don't like the totally pointless ep 1.
The priest's alchemy was pretty laughable in the anime. That's a minor point, though.
I don't like that they went through Al and Ed's back story before it became a relevant plot point.

...I actually can't remember what else was wrong with it.
not that it's really spoiling anything

I'm the type that rereads and re-watch things I like over and over again,
but since I really haven't watched FMA: Brotherhood all that much, I can't say I remember all that much about it.

To note, I hard heard nothing good about FMA's original anime, and nothing but good things about FMA: Brotherhood before watching.
Watching the first episode, I thought I had accidentally opened an episode of the original or something.
I was sadly wrong.

Regardless, the show is pretty good if you look at it on its own merits, even though we all know it isn't a masterpiece. And unless you want to watch something like DBZ, you can't pick a safer anime to start with (in terms of how well liked it is, how good it is likely to be vs how bad, etc).

The original anime was also okay. Not as good as brotherhood, it was still fun to watch. It just got panned more than it deserved because the thing wildly deviated from the manga so far that a very large number of people just wouldn't judge it on its own merits and nitpicked it to death.

The consensus, as I've come to understood it, is that FMA starts off good and becomes bad, while FMA:B starts off bad and becomes good.

I finished watching Shinsekai Yori yesterday or so, and I have no idea how to describe my impression of it. I think I liked, but I have no idea why. Episode 8 was a real curveball.

So Dubbed or Subbed? Or depending on the series? Which do you prefer?

So I don't know how this broke down the way it did but.......

Dubbed = Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Dragonball / Z/ GT, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop

Subbed = Everything Else Possible
