Still think messenger should use the "until" wording.
I also have a conflicting interest with Cato's card since I want to fit Nemesis Engine in here eventually, and it's too similar.

In that case, I would probably make it "If ~ would die, exile it until an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control instead."
Either works fine for me. I didn't do it for that reason because I felt the 'instead' is placed very awkwardly.

Seems really weak if it only targets one creature. I'd bring the cost down to and add some kind of bonus like first strike so it's decent with just one or two enchantments.
