Maybe.

But if I have a limited resource to build pages, it may be best to focus those resources on something new to start and leave what exists elsewhere as just a link in the short term. In the future as resources become more available - either because we have more people or because most of our stuff is built - we can circle back to replace the external stuff with internal stuff.

Or putting it another way: all things being equal, I agree. But as a start-up, all things aren't equal and we have to determine where to best "spend" our resources.

I mean the third alternative is to not worry about it at all, and the fourth is to just take their information for expansion later which, again, we are well within our rights to do.

given the presumption that it's not worth recreating here (I'm not saying it's not, just assuming for the sake of argument) I think we do more harm than good providing a direct link rather than just providing nothing. as keeper said, they've got a lot of overlap with what we're doing but more establishment. they're not exactly the same and I think there's definitely a place for us, but I don't think it's a good idea to go around reminding everyone of other options all the time.

Indeed. All good options. Any or all are doable, as folks see fit. I'm not saying it's the best option, or we should do it, or whatever. Just that it's an option. *shrug*

edit: To make a corrallary on the RPG side, where I'm more comfortable - I wouldn't have any qualms linking to one of the Pathfinder Wikis as a means of providing rules links, at least to start. I'd rather spend time creating new stuff and cycling back to the other stuff later. (Now, granted, the license arrangements are a bit more complex in that case because the terms of both the OGL and the Pathfinder Compatibility license are stricter than Creative Commons.)

Okay, in visiting the wiki, an obvious absence I notice is a link back to the forums. Salvation has a link to their forums on their... whatever you call the left-hand side that's there no matter what page you're on, under "External Links". It would make flipping between the forums and wiki more seamless.

Anything gaming related can go on the wiki. Individual posters are responsible for ensure any necessary license terms (OGL, Creative Common, etc) are met as necessary.

It's an FAQ not even an actual official one ..no need to post any of those..it's not the MRSD or anything like that lol

Alright, I have this crazy idea to create an online fantasy art resource for use by the YMTC forum. Ultimately this will host thousands of images. Could the wiki support that? Also, does the wiki support tagging?

No. But I only intend to host art that the artists okay'd.

I actually don't know if the wiki can host art or not. I mean, I know it can display it, but I don't know if it stores it. best answer I can give - try one and see what happens.

It seems to host it, yes. And while there is no TAGGING, you CAN put things into categories. Let me know if you need help organizing what should go in what categories for greatest ease. Otherwise the category pages could get very messy very quickly.

It REALLY must be either explicitly given to you or released under a CC license though. I mean, I think you get that but some people on this site apparently don't so it seems worthwhile to stress it again. To me, given my understanding of Fair Use, making use of the image as card art is a transformative use and is protected, but just storing the images in a massive library... that's kind of a different ball of wax entirely.

In addition to that - I'm not a lawyer, but I agree with what Keeper has said - please ensure the artist gets proper credit. A link to the artist's page as part of the credit is absolutely OK. We want to encourage people to find cool new artists.

It's actually pretty easy to do that in description text, too, thankfully.

I don't think we would need a set template for this (i.e. an automatic formatted thing that you can drop information into) but if you think that'd be useful, we can talk about what that would look like.

Also, if this is a project you want to embark on seriously, you probably want to mention it in AF&S.
