You could learn all you ever wanted to know about WWII in the time it takes to download it. Perhaps people would find it easier to empathize when they can live one another's experiences. Spies would steal password directly from people's brains.
With knowledge so widely available it would become devalued. People would be valued increasingly by their skills; quickness of wit and strength of arm would replace intelligence as measures of esteem.

What if we set up a computer that automatically downloaded everyone's personalities when they died?

Then there would truly be hell on earth.

What if life was Silicon based instead of Carbon based?

Then it wouldn't be happening on earth's surface. For the proper biochemical reactions to occur we'd need to be somewhere much hotter. Under the surface might work, but since I'm not a biochemist, I'll say we'd all be living our silicon-based lives on another planet.
