Put a 1/2 black spirit token onto the battlefield.
Whenever a creature card is put into your graveyard, you may return Spectral Guide from your graveyard to your hand.

So many lives have been lost on Starstill, that Drolet itself is full.

Spoiler

Frostbitten Weremachine :3::b::b:
Artifact Creature - Zombie Construct

You may cast ~ from your Graveyard by sacrificing an artifact in addition to paying its other costs.
If a creature was sacrificed this way, ~ enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.

4/3

One part undead, one part machine. Zero parts living.

Not sure how to cost this for uncommon.

I vote for Ace of Moxes.

Didn't even notice I pretty much took Ace's idea ._.

Mmm. I'm really not sure how these guys fit into the flavor, but mechanic-wise, I like Knifethrower's best.

I'm not really a fan of buyback (especially if we're only going to bring back one old mechanic). Yes, it fits the criteria, but is it what we want for the set.
I like Storyteller's card, but I'm no sold on coloured artifacts unless we find a new way to do them. (snow/color hybrid?)
Knifethrower's card seems really strong in this format (enough power to kill most creatures + easy recursion + haste). Not OP, but definitely a card to watch out for.
Ace of Moxes - There are only 3 monoblack creatures with flash in modern and two were from Timespiral block, the block flash and zaniness.
Altimis - Card is unexciting but not a bad design. 1/2 is an odd token size.
TP - What a handsome devil.

Buyback, cascade, storm, rebound. All my favorite keywords.

TPzombieW's card is wonderful (if a bit under the power curve), but I have to go with Knifethrower.

My top picks would be TPzombieW and Knifethrower.
I think the Knifethrower's card is slightly over the curve,

so my vote goes to TPzombieW

@TPzombieW: It was orignally going to be a 0/2, but I decided that I wanted them to be able to kill things so as to not be entirely gamestate stalling.
Oh snap! It was supposed to say "nontoken creature" , meh I guess a continuous line of chumping 1/2's isn't super broken :p

I was wondering if it should have costed that. So yeah, if it gets in I might change it, depending on how we do the editing stuff.

It would be slightly less powerful than unhinge (90% of the time).

Strictly worse, actually. I think might be too good, though? Straight card advantage usually costs and some life.

I think it's strictly the same as Unhinge actually. At of course.

Even though it's the opponents choice, there is still a chance that you can draw more than one card out of it. It's because of that replayability that keeps it from being strictly worse. Again it's up to the opponent, but you being able to draw more cards is also a bad thing for them too. Plus it's funny if you have multiples and they have one card that they don't want to get rid of :p

It's better than unhinge when your opponent has no cards in hand. Otherwise, it's worse.

That's the reason you can't say it's strictly worse. They both have applications in different but still common scenarios.
After a while, discard becomes useless, and Unhinge becomes a simple draw a card.
After a while, when your opponent has no cards in hand, ___ becomes draw multiple cards.

Unhinge is better early game, while ___ is better late game.

I used to run a discard-based monoblack deck. The MVP of that deck was Unburden because early game it can discard cards. But late game, it can be something else (a specter, a land, or sadly even another discard spell).

Current Tally:

TPzombieW: 4
Knifethrower: 2
Ace of Moxes*: 1
altimis: 1

And TPzombieW takes it! I've taken the liberty of naming the card Wraith's Whisper. It's been added to the spoiler at .

Please pick a rarity and write a criterion for the next round.

Parad, when you post your candidate ballot, can you please post what was the final criterion for that batch in the same post? Sometimes voters will have missed the design phase and just want to evaluate cards-against-the-criteria at voting time. And this means digging back to find the statement of criteria, and this gets further confounded if the criteria changes sometime along the way (as it did here - I came back to the summary post wondering why so many submissions did not match the (original, apparently) criteria.)

And by the time I sorted through it all voting was finalized. My vote for Ace wouldn't have changed the winner anyway.

Arqwart has requested this already. I shall do it in the future.
