Confused.

While not exactly a mafia maneuver, claiming during day one is usually the opposite of beneficial for town.

So far, Confused has suggested it, and squinty_eyes has commented negatively about it.

That could say tons about their relation to each other, it could say nothing in particular, thus the discussion.

To me, it's a terrible option for both sides.
As a mafia, Confused paints a large target on his head.
As a town, Confused detracts from us hunting mafia.

A role we haven't seen yet on the forums, is the Fool whom WANTS to get lynched.

Right now, that's my take on all of this.
Confused wants to get lynched and squinty_eyes is merely commenting about it.

Now the fun part...

Heh, I didn't know The Fool was a role that could be done. That's a pretty cool idea. Actually, despite having been in a few games, the only roles I've really seen in action are doctor, cop, roleblocker and mafia don. I've heard a lot about other roles, but The Fool is a new one to me.

I've never personally played with one, because with my friends we could never agree on which version to play.
Whether the player wins when they get voted.
or
Whether the player gets to "pick" their alignment. (Pick as in, they win with town so long as they aren't lynched, they win with mafia if they are lynched)

With the first, it can be incredibly fun to play with, or incredibly annoying. It depends on how well the Fool player plays. They could fake mafia, or they could be annoying/obvious and say vote me etc.

With the second, it gives that one player an incredible amount of control, but very little benefit to their actions. If they last to mid/late game, they can choose which team they want to win.

All I know is that this is clearly a different Mafia game, but how different is it?

I am pretty sure we established that already.

We all know how day 1 goes, random yada, I shall FoS: seTiny for trying to act like a town asking the mafia to own up and for using that (imo) overly adorable tiger avatar.
