So, I don't know how well this is going to be received, especially this first chapter. "Take the Black" is an in-progress written fiction featuring my player-character OC, Josiah, and my girlfriend's, Ria, as they cavort about the multiverse, including a great deal of planes that aren't from WotC IPs. For example, this first chapter is set on Nirn, from The Elder Scrolls. I would love to hear all kinds of feedback and discussion as I progress, and feel free to ask me about any headcanons I have that are relevant to the series, though I reserve the right to hide behind spoiler warnings for upcoming facts. I'm posting primarily on Ao3 (partly due to length being rather large for forums like this), but feel just as free to comment here as there. Updates will be a touch distant unless I can get more than three completed chapters ahead.

Without further ado, may I present "Take the Black, Chapter 1: Skyrim"

I'm about 1/4 through the page so far. I need to post in some of my D&D games and such but I plan on leaving the page up and reading it at work within the next day or so depending on my schedule.

The title "Take the Black" reminded me instantly of the Adem from Name of the Wind 'Taking the Red'. I have no major critiques just yet, but I'll let you know more as I read more.

I know I haven't been active much around here, but as I'm getting back into writing I'm hoping to be. Regardless, though, I thought I'd point out (in case anyone is interested) that I've added another (short) chapter to "Take the Black" called "Oblivion" (because the titles are the places and I'm not good at naming chapters any other significant way). Next chapter is only a few days away because I haven't updated in so long and Chapter 2 is really, really short.

And as a little carrot to dangle: Chapter 3's title is Ravnica. Four and five are also M:tG-native planes, but I'm not sure where we're going after that, though I have a few stops planned.

Unfortunately, I don't want to post CHapter 4 until I've finished Chapter 5. I'm rather stuck on Theros, trying to figure out how to write in as complex a combat as a minotaur attack on a temple with no fewer than four named characters wielding four different weapons (Ria uses both bow and hammer in the planned fight).

I'll read Ravnica when I return from work, or it may have to wait for my day off, but either way I'll have it read soon and report back.
