Graydon hears the splashes of his companions floundering in the sea, and rushes to their aid. "You there! Toss me that lifesaver!" He flings the lifesaver just pass Quinn, hauling it forward like a fishing net. "Quinn! Grab on!"

If this thing doesn't weaken soon, may have to come up with something crazy to take this down. Jiardem started to write runes upon the wind and soon felt a chilly breeze as the seas at the sides of the beast began to freeze.

"Quinn can use all the help he can get right now! Get him back on this ship!"

The violent wind and waves mixed with the bitter cold would be too much for most people, but Quinn manages to hold his own against the forces of nature...for now at least. It is taking all his strength to keep himself from being pulled under or from being thrown too far from the ship to hope for rescue, but he is managing. As long as he can stay afloat and close to the ship someone might be able to throw him a lifeline...

He can only hope.

Meanwhile in the mouth of the beast, Agamemnon is being crushed under the immense force of the creatures toothy maw. The sanctified ham is tough as nails and is taking quite a punishment without keeling over, but even he won't be able to suffer this harsh punishment for long.

Agamemnon takes 18 damage from the bite of the sea serpent.

It is now Agamemnon's turn.

Agamemnon grimaces as the creature bites down into his flesh though he somewhat relieved that nothing vital feels to have been pierced. He swings his hammer in a wide arc and while the creatures scaled hide deflects the blow the momentary distraction grants his the break he needs to brace his feet against the roof of the monsters mouth and, grunting in pain, the gith manages to force open the beasts jaw a few inches a slips out of its maw. With some effort his is able to push off against the creatures face and grab hold of the rope anchoring the ship to the monster.

Don't worry, my friend. About the water I can do nothing, but your wounds are a different matter. Now lets stop playing and finish this worm once and for all. Thibor says while he retreats a little. No point in being a sitting duck for the monster.

COMBAT ROUND 5
THE KARABOUDJAN

Another volley of cannons fire, and one even hits, but still the beast rages on! One sailor throws a javelin but misses. Meanwhile, Agamemnon hangs for his life on the rope that tethers the beast to the ship and Quinn is still thrashing about in the water. How much more of this can they take?

It is now Graydon's turn.

Graydon's aim is true, and the lifesaver deftly jerks forward across the water's surface, slipping dexterously through Quinn's flailing arms. "Hold on!" the warden hollers, gritting his teeth and yanking the rope forward, pulling the sopping Quinn out of the choppy waters.

My spellbook is looking a little thin right now... Jiardem thought as he readied a spear like missile.

"Captain, any ideas?"

The Captain looks to Jiardem. "Get your two men aboard, cut the rope, and let's high tail it out of here! No mission can be worth all this. The beast doesn't even show any signs of growing weary!"

Quinn struggles with the rope but manages to pull himself back on board, thanks to Graydon. Turning back towards the monster he unleashes a missile of magical energy that never misses its mark.

It doesn't do much, but with that last little bit of damage the creature roars and stops its assault. Everything remains still for a moment, even the waves seem to stop crashing. Then the serpent appears to almost...smile? Before finally diving back into the deep. The cord holding it to the boat snaps, leaving Agamemnon hanging from the end that is still tethered to the boat. The waves die for good, the storm stops, and the Karaboudjan is left sitting on calm waters surrounded by fog.

"Did we beat it?" Quinn asks.

"Get our bearings!" The Captain yells to no one in particular. "I don't want to stay here a moment longer than we have to!"

The Combat is over. You may now act as you wish.

Resting against the railing of the ship thankful for a respite from fighting Jiardem let out a sigh of relief. "Wonder if my ancestor even made it this far..." Turning his attention to the captain's order for bearings he walked a few steps towards her, "If it weren't for this fog we'd have the stars to go by, but we don't so we'll have to rely on something else. Perhaps a cave explorer's trick might help here. A bit of string and some metal might just work for the purpose..."

Graydon is still filled with the vigor of battle, having failed to draw blood or, well, accomplish much besides some impromptu hero fishing. He absent-mindedly claps Quinn on the back and scans the deck, looking for something, anything to do. "It's been an eventful trip thus far," he comments. "But it's best if we hustle to land. Need to fix the hull and all. Pray, is there anything you need assistin' with? Or failin' that, anyone want to show me how to fire a crossbow?"

After a few moments struggle Agamemnon hauls himself up the rope and back onto the deck on the Karaboudjan. "Well that was disappointing. Here we are just about to get up close and personal with that great wurm of the sea and it up an leave us. I had barely begun to flex my muscle. Ah that is indeed the pity of being Agamemnon, Slayer of Beasts - they know who I am and flee before I can even work up a sweat! " Letting out a loud laugh the gith proceeds to fall face first onto the deck.

The Captain starts barking orders at her crew. Soon enough people are hard at work repairing the damage and getting back to the ship's normal functions.

Suddenly, from up above, lookout Alice Rex calls out
"Land! LAND!"

And sure enough, as if on cue, the ship rocks violently as it crashes into the jagged rocks that surround the isle that is only barely visible through the fog. Everyone on board is thrown to the floor by the shock, even the dwarves. Alice, from up high, nearly falls from her perch. Then the ship is still. Climbing to your feet you can all see the immense black wall that stretches from side to side in front of the ship. Onyx walls a hundred feet high stretch in both directions and seem to whisper "keep out" with every passing woosh of wind.

Is this deja vu? Or have you been here before?

"Oh no, don't tell me...We're back at the Isle of Serpents?! How did we get turned around without noticing it?" The Captain's words echo what everyone else was thinking. It is true that the stone wall that juts out of the water before you bears a remarkable semblance to the Isle of Serpents you had passed just hours before...but something isn't right. Maybe it's the smell in the air? Or the persistent fog that won't go away? Maybe it's the fear that you all seem to be feeling for no apparent reason that is right now sending shivers down your spine. You can't quite place your finger on it, but somehow...Somehow you know that you have reached the Isle of Horrors.

Graydon lurches to his feet, assisting Quinn up to his feet as well. He carefully makes his way across the tilted deck, inspecting the side of the ship for damage and to verify if the ship's been moored on the rocks.

"Stop bragging yourself of things you didn't do, it is a mortal sin." Thibor says to Agamemnon. "You were just serving as food for that worm and then you resolved to start swimming as you had nothing better to do. History must be accurate and this is how I will describe your participation on my journal."

"But I am too tired to write that now. I almost died trying to perform a ritual, wasted many spells trying to hit the worm and protect the crew. I feel I need some sleep before I participate from other adventure." Thibor says collapsing to the ship's deck exhausted.

Shouting up from his prone position on the deck Agamemnon addresses Thibor. "Your words wound me more then the fangs of any beast my stout friend. While I will admit I did not strike the final blow to say I had no part in this battle is a grave mistake! Did not the blinding rays of Pelor scour the creatures eyes? Did the holy chains of righteousness not bind it's evil? Did my hammer, filled with the divine wrath of sun itself, not strike a mighty blow against the beast? I am hurt that you do not remember these deeds. We, all of us here, have achieved a great victory this day! Surely such feats deserve some embellishment in your writing? An accurate portrayal of event is useless if none can read it without falling asleep after all. Ah but you must be tired Master Cruxholder - go now and sleep the sleep of one who follows the path of righteousness. I am sure when you awaken anew you will remember this battle with renewed clarity! " His piece spoken Agamemnon stretches out again on the deck and, adjusting for better comfort, begins to drift off into a proper sleep.

Collecting himself off of the deck in a similar manner before they struck the rocks Jiardem addressed the captain saying this time, "I'll check below deck for damage, as there's likely to be some and prepare some quick spells should we need them. After that last fight, I'd rather not be caught with just cantrips as an offensive,"

I remember I need a mug of water for one and a source of static electricity for the other, just the storing incantations never are easy for me to memorize...

Captain Kilina Rose returns Jiardem's statement with a cock-eyed look, followed by a sigh. "No, you won't. I need to talk with your little adventuring party about the circumstances of this mission, and whether or not it even can continue. Assemble your mates, and be in my office in 10 minutes." She then turns to her first mate, Alan Cross, an aged human who's battle scars show a history on his face that is intimidating to say the least. "Where have you been?"

"Stuck below deck, Captain. The forward cargo hold collapsed when the creature first struck the ship. We lost three good men, I'm afraid." He responds, solemnly.

"Dammit."

"I tried my best to dig them out of the rubble, but it was too late. We also lost some of our cargo."

"I'm not going to worry about that right now. I've got to have a talk with our guests here. You take charge. When I come out I want a full damage report. And find Quentin. He should be topside. Perish forbid he's one of the ones we lost..."

"Aye aye, Captain." Cross turns and starts barking orders. Kilina turns back to face Jiardem.

"Well? What are you still doing in my sight? Go get your partners and meet me in my office! Chop chop." With that she turns and walks to her office at the back of the main deck.

"Yes, ma'am,"

Through the fog it wasn't easy to see the others, Jiardem nearly found himself tripping over Aggamenon and Thibor. "You two do realize there are better places to sleep than here don't you? Don't answer that. Captain needs to meet with us. All of us. Have you seen Graydon and Quinn?"
