Do you think it would be worthwhile to have all our still-active authors do an "ask the author" thread for this?

I'd be willing to do that. I'd probably be able to remember most of what went into mine.

For Part 1, I think it's just us, maybe with Keeper moderating?

Well the only activity on Reddit was two downvotes so... yeah **** posting on Reddit in the future. God I always forget how much I hate 99.999% of people that post on that website, always to my inevitable sorrow. What a hole.

Um, otherwise I don't really have a good way to gauge how far the anthology has spread so I don't know if it's actually worth creating such a thread. I mean not a lot of people are looking at it right now obviously because it's 2 in the morning here in Canadia. But. The response on G+ and Tumblr has been ok but not, like, ecstatic.

Don't let it discourage you. We're writing to a relatively small niche, and people, for whatever reason, rarely give much feedback unless cornered. After all, nearly all of the comments I get on my stuff comes from four or five people.

Okay, so I was a little depressed today, and my attempt to cheer up Keeper hasn't helped. I'm going to bed. But seriously, Keeper, good work.

Yeah, I am, too. And since Tevish wrote 13 of the pieces (still awesome, by the way) and I wrote 8 more, that's a pretty good percentage!

There is one piece of very uplifting information!

The anthology, while filled out mostly with stories by Raven and Szat, features a majority of authors from outside the project! Even more if you count Aaarrrgh, who came into the project on the strength of his work for this anthology. I counted 8/14 authors as being non-M:EMbers. That's pretty good outside participation.

We should rename this thread, because the release of the anthology is good news indeed.

Apparently at least one person on Tumblr temporarily was fooled into thinking this was a real WotC e-book.

There was also the comment about how long we can hold out with Fair Use, but this IS Hasbro/WotC, not Games Workshop. Considering we make literally zero profit off this, I think they're liable to consider us free publicity if they consider us at all.

Yeah, I'm hoping we fly under their radar. They came down hard on PolishTamales but she does ecchi fanservice stuff so I think that was part of the issue there (though it is, frankly, still ****, and is part of the reason I'm still real nervous about putting our work out there...).

Is Games Workshop bad about Fair Use stuff?

Games Workshop decided they owned the phrase "Space Marine" thanks to Warhammer 40,000. They decided to sue the hell out of a self-published author who had written a book about a "Space Marine" with no relation whatsoever to WH40k Space Marines or any actual GW Intellectual property.

This ended badly for GW, but it does show the sort of insane troll logic extremes to which they take Intellectual Property

At least Doug Beyer did officially say that he is in favor of fanfiction:
