The only thing that the interstate system has to do with missiles is that when it comes to the vertical clearance of bridges and such. Originally the clearance was set at 14 feet which was sufficient for all military vehicles and equipment to safely travel under but after the launching of Sputnik that number was changed to 17 feet to allow for movement of things like the Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile which could not be transported via the rail network.
Rather than continuing to spread rumor and old wives tales gang, lets actually stick to linking facts! Or at least fact check something before simply copy/pasting it from some random site.

For more information on the Eisenhower Interstate System refer to the following:
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/interstate/faq.htm
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/interstate/interstatemyths.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System
http://www.history.com/topics/interstate-highway-system[/quote]

In my defense, I knew it had something to do with missiles and I was partly right

President Eisenhower supported the Interstate System because he wanted a way of evacuating cities if the United States was attacked by an atomic bomb.
President Eisenhower’s support was based largely on civilian needs—support for economic development, improved highway safety, and congestion relief, as well as reduction of motor vehicle-related lawsuits. He understood the military value of the Interstate System, as well as its use in evacuations, but they were only part of the reason for his support.

But thanks for the links :teach: as I was false in part but not all so i get half credit :P

__

Random fact about msyelf: I have a small interest in WW3/Cold War/Cuban missile Crisis and related fields.

While aircraft have been known to make emergency landings on the interstate for various reasons. In the event of a war the military will utilize actual airports rather than shutting down the largest system of roads we have to land planes on them. Small airports are everywhere and most are large enough to be used by even some of the larger cargo planes. Obviously you're not going to be able to drop a Galaxy into just any old cow pasture runway...but for the most part even rinky dink airports will suffice.

The nightmare that would come from locking down an interstate simply to land planes on it would be extremely detrimental to trying to defend the country.

Garren actually stands for 'Great, Awesome Really Radical and Entirely Narly'. The Windspear is me. Basically I'm just perfect. Except my 'words meaning good' is apparently stuck in the 90's. That's probably bad.

Gnarly is actually spelled with a G

False.

A lot of people have been mislead into thinking this is true though.

US interstate highway system was originally meant to help move missiles around the country along with helping the cities Evac in case of war with those dirty commies.

I once sold a piece of artwork in Jr high for like 20$. The kid then proceded to tell everyone he drew it himself. The joke was on him though, all I did was trace the character then edit it slightly :V

Plums are laxatives??

Some sun facts since I work in derm:

We get 80% of our sun exposure before we're 18. So, if you got burned a lot as a kid, get ready for some terrible skin later in life.
A white t-shirt is SPF 5.
Anything over SPF 35 is semi-irrelevant, since the protection it provides doesn't change the fact you need to reapply sunscreen after 2 hours.
You probably shouldn't be outside for longer than 15 minutes a day if you want flawless, undamaged skin.
Heat can cause sunburn-like-symptoms.

On the price is right Plinko has never been won and isn't statistically likely to be, either. Most people consider it a win if the contestant hits the big-money slot once, but Word of God says the full $50,000 must be won.

Members of the British royal family are not allowed to vote. Every year millions of ordinary English folk commiseratively refuse to vote in solidarity with their royals. Or at at least that would be a great excuse.

One of the reasons humans love chocolate so much is due to the fact that its melting point is our body temperature.

2 Hours? That's not a very long time to spend in a country. Hopefully you can still catch that leprechaun between flights!

Well, I always signed my name on the WotC forums:

~squinty

But somewhere along the lines there was a large burst of MUPs (mine was Oh_Snap), and several of us assigned them different personalities on YMtC. We went through a month where we did almost nothing but spam and fool around bouncing between our MUPs. Anywho, "SE++" is actually the shorthand for a Penny Arcade forum called Social Entropy++ which is basically what our Off Topic Room is. It's a place to go and be a little spammy and do random threads and topics that don't have another place on the forums. So, due to the fact that the letters matched up with my screenname, I decided to swap it to what I use now since it felt right during that time. Since then, I've just kept it.

There were quite a few people who signed each of their posts on the old WotC forums (like Ogre), and I just kinda never gave it up. Pointless to keep doing it, I know, but it's almost reflex to just quickly type it in after each post now. It's actually harder for me to not do it now.
