I'll also throw it out there - after 1 game as town and one as mafia, I really liked being town better.

@Fel - personally (and I've never had a town role) I think I would have waited to make the cop claim, and tried to guide people to getting rid of Shock early, and tried to find another goblin (or all of us) before making the claim. But again, I've never actually been in that position before.

Yeah, I agree, that was not the 100% best play, although I wasn't going to be able to post for a long time after that, so I got kind of desperate.

There was no dead chat. Like I said. I'm old school :P

Anyway, role-wise this game had everything you could wish for as GO when you design the game.
A doc safe.
A good cop call.
And the early claiming cop which leads to the roleblocker being used.

I tried to keep things as basic as possible in terms of roles, so it did come down more to the tells and stuff.
For instance, the non-bolded vote Confused made at the end, I'm 90% sure he would not have done that if one of the more experienced players was in the final three.

Targets and stuff later.

Neo - I didn't suspect you until near the end. I thought you did a pretty good job of playing consistent to your style last game.

It was annoying as hell not having access at work. It really altered the way I played. The obvious way is that it reduced my posting frequency; but it also severely limited my ability to go back and read and re-read stuff. From a helping town perspective, I was actually pretty happy to get killed when I did, because I knew I wasn't playing up to my (limited) ability. With the forum switching addresses, for now I have access at work again. I don't know if the filters will get around to reclassifying the site as "games" or if it'll stay in the "forum" category, though.

Good show, gang. Coming down to the last moment is pretty good, I think.

Well, I've screwed up three games in a row. I officially quit Mafia games. :)

Don't feel bad, it was pretty much a 50-50 chance. Don't forget you got Neo right.

It was bad plays by me on the last day too. Instead of bringing any reasoning to the table, I just said 'Its not me, dont do it!'.

I guess I was kind of burnt out on how long this game had gone, and the fact that simply by being more active, I looked guiltier. I should have pointed out how insanely suicidal it would have been for me to try save Neo, if I was a goblin. Both goblins on the final day banding together? but yeah, at the time I was tired and busy and just let them game go.

Oh well, was still fun, if somewhat long.

I think the thing that imbalances the mafia (so far) is that as the days whittle down, the choices fall on the least active (aka inactive) of the mafia games. If it were reversed I feel that the town would start winning.

And TECHNICALLY town won last game... kinda.

Also, I still have a MASSIVE bone to pick with everyone.
Is anybody honestly still confused by this? I only ask because, most people seemed to get it later on, I feel like it was Fel or someone made a post very similar to me and I wanted to just cry. :p

1 - I am mafia. You lynch me, you are down one mafia. Where do you go from here? You probably look at shock and squinty. At this point it's a terrible idea to go after rstnme even if you think we are putting on a show. You have no real clue who the other mafia could be. Especially seeing how nobody really stepped up to defend me.

2 - I am town. You lynch me, go 'oh crap' and instantly look at rstnme and probably cereal killer. You have two possible suspects but are down an active player. At this point you probably go after rstnme. If he's town, you sulk. If he's mafia, you found one, but lost an active player in the process.

3 - rstnme is mafia. You lynch rstnme and have removed a mafia player from the game. You see that I have some validity and start looking at cereal killer and elijin (yeah you're going way up on my suspect list). You have at least one lead and an active player. Some might be suspicious of me but even then you still have a lead.

4 - rstnme is town. You go 'oh crap' and turn on me. If I'm town, you're down between two to four townies (depending on night kills). If I'm mafia you get a mafia. and you inly lost a less active player as collateral.

Honestly, I'm torn up that nobody understood the base statistics-ness of this.
As a very not-so-quick summary:

Yeah, I did say if you want my suspects keep me alive; and that could have been worded differently. How I really should have worded it:
"It's day one. No matter whom I suspect or don't suspect, I got nothing to base my reads on. If you want more-accurate results, keep me alive."

If it makes you feel better, I kinda understand your points at that time. But oh wait, I was mafia.

I tried to save you Alt, but there was so much heat on you that doing it more enphatically would make me look terrible (just look what happened when I did that after your lynch).

lol XD

@squinty: Yeah, I also played aggressively this game (albeit for half a day) compared to the last game I played. I try to switch it up so people can't say "altimis is doing this, he's probably town" or vice versa.

Alt's logic was incredibly flawed and arbitrary. He basically targeted me because I was being active and blunt. It unfortunately set the tone for the entire game.

EDIT:

To clarify, he even states in this most recent post: "My whole purpose of posting everything I did was to state that keeping an active player is more beneficial even if you're wrong."

So, keep active players, except one of the two most active players at that time (me)? :ookay:

Additionally, the fallacy throughout this entire game has been that mafia hides behind inactivity. That's just simply not true; it's just a method employed by some mafia players. There was also way too much discussion of previous games in this game; I thought Neosilk was scummy for always bringing up previous games, but EVERYONE else was, so I assumed it was some part if the meta game I didn't understand.

I think Neo is a good example of exactly what you're saying about activity, too. He was pretty active, after all.

And I don't think there's an issue bringing up a player's style of play, if you have experience with the player and can draw some parallels. It's potential evidence, so it's worth looking at. The issue is if it becomes the end-all of your assessment on somebody.

Well, bringing up the style of play benefited the player using it as a veil, and not any of the other players. Experienced players will be able to wield this against other experienced players, so it seems like a tactic best used for people who've only recently played a couple of games, or "experienced" players that are suckers for precedent.

By pretending to be an inquisitive, still fairly new player, Neosilk managed to slip through a lot of suspicion and speculation. Definitely the MVP of the game.

LOL - thanks....not quite sure if I agree - I mean, Confused managed to get us the win, and was really not on anyone's radar for quite a long time.

Confused chose their post timing really well, but I think you generated the most "pertinent" discussion when there was a higher number of players.

If anything, I would say, based on Confused's selected posting, that it's wrong to say people who do not post are scum, more like people who post frequently but not often are scum. Not sure if that's enough to lynch someone alone though.
