I'm going to be running Red Hand of Doom, and I noticed that there are a lot of battle scenarios in there that (almost) require ranged capability. The problem with that is that I don't think anyone in the party is going to be doing that; I know there's a Hexblade (with Mearls' fixes & Dark Companion ACF) and probably a swordsage. So... What should I make as a ranged NPC? I was thinking an elf Cragtop Archer.

Ranged combat is a lie. It doesn't work. At the very least, it doesn't work unless you've got a minimum of a bit over thirty thousand to throw at a bow, and even then its mediocre.

Unless you want to cut crap and go caster that is.

Regardless, if your heart's set on an archer, go Warblade. Full BAB, Tiger Claw, WRT, IHS, auto-pass saves, it's got all you'll need.

No, but I did consider Sorcerer. :P

Honestly, I was kinda hoping somebody would give me a good Cleric Archer build. Or tell me to use a Soulbow. :D

Well, that is what a Mailman does, so long as single target is acceptable. Mystic ranger is pretty much the only way I'd look at an archer build, though. Spells to boost it into a decent level (for archery, at least) really help, and I recall the ranger getting more directly useful spells for this than the admittedly broader cleric.

Actually, there are a couple off cool AoE tricks, but the only really good ones only work when Time Stop is in play.

The only really cool thing rangers get is Hunter's Mercy, which is actually really good. Aside from that, though, actually I think Psions have the best list for Archery. Or Ardents, if you have that hilariously awesome ACF.

Yep. It's awesome. Poorly designed, but awesome.

I think the awesomeness can be directly attributed to its poor design. :teach:
