Since you prefer urban adventures, allow me to drop in a plug for The Great City Campaign Setting from 0one Games. ;) (And I'd link you directly to the product on the Publisher's website, but my employer blocks it. And if you want more info about the setting, let me know and I'll start a thread about it so as not to completely hijack yours.)

Bump! ;)

Would like to see more on this, especially with the talk of a sandbox world. The more I see about Crystalshore, the more I might be able to draft up a neighboring city, or a port further up the coast or something should we start doing that.

I could also help you start drafting up some maps if it ever came to that point for your world.

Good descriptions on both Demon's Run and Marakesh.

Keep expanding and adding more detail, it's coming along nicely.

Maybe expand upon the details of the Lord Mayor and his advisors.

Are there any fringe organized criminal elements in Crystalshore?

Its late right now, and I'm already in bed. But I love designing and fluffing up thieves' guilds and similar organizations so I'll take a look at it and have you a more in depth critique tomorrow.

Thieves guilds have much more potential than a lot of people tend to give them, there can be so much more to them than the cliche group of rogues.

The DM who runs the live games I'm part of has a Thieve's Guild. The place has a front and a back entrance. If you go in through the back entrance, unless you're level 15 or higher, you'll most likely die with how trapped it is. But, if you go in through the front door, nothing happens and you simply go in. Everyone expects the front to be trapped for rogues to find and pass through, and no one expects the back to be the insanely guarded one. Go figure...

Okay and thanks, I upped the population to 50,000 and added farms on the outskirts of the city

I can see how you might want to develop the guild more, although I'm not sure what you have in your notes, but I think the concept of a guild that actively eschews killing is a cool concept. Reminds me of Robert DeNiro in The Score talking about not using guns.

Ah organized thievery. I'd actually really like to hear everything you have on your Angelic Shadows. I always enjoyed the concept of a thieves guild but always found they trip up under scrutiny. I'm not saying they can't work but you really need to know the nuts and bolts with them. Mind if I bounce a few questions about them off ya?

1) Why Angelic Shadows? Is that what they call themselves or what everyone else calls them? It sounds like there a story behind that name.

2) What activities are they involved in? Smuggling and prostitution makes them sound more like mafioso then your traditional 'group of pick-pockets working together' set up. Nothing wrong with that just working out logistics.

3) How do they avoid capture? I know you mentioned bribes and quasi-official backing but that only goes so far. What is the opinion of the common people or the merchants whose profits they actively cut into? Do most just assume they are a legitimate, albeit a little shady, business?

4) Franchise? I know Crystalshore is the only is the only city you are detailing but are the Angelic Shadows unique to that city or are they a far-ranging group controlling criminal elements throughout other cities are well?

I just used a random name generator and didn't really give a story to the name

They also pick pockets cuz you know you gotta pick a pocket or two (cookie to the poster who guesses that reference first ) They have also in the past worked to help rig elections, along iwth providing additional security for Merakesh LTD and the Merakesh Family, They also run or are silent partners in a number of business around the city.

They will on occasion give up a low ranking member to help keep the peace, for the most part however the common folk think they are just hired hugs and run the brothels and the merchants either shrug their shoulders and do the best they can or hope they don't get robbed or have something stolen.

They have contacts with other groups in other places, mainly just agreements about not working in each others areas that sort of thing.

Cool. Thanks for answering! I always love a good thieves guild but they can fall apart so easily. Also Oliver! (the stage musical or the 1968 movie adaptation of said musical. Where's ma cookie?
