So, over at the Magic: Expanded Multiverse we're talking about how we want to expand and what we want to prioritize now that we're on these new boards and have a bit more leeway and chance of attracting a wider audience.

With that in mind, I'm curious about what people would want to actually read. We know what we want to write, broadly, but what are you folks interested in actually viewing?

Besides Liliana/Chandra slashfic. Can't you just be satisfied with the wonders Steve Argyle bestows upon us?

I don't think you should try to write fiction on a specific topic. Write what you want to write. If you're invested in a work yourself, you'll be willing to spend more time and effort on it, and it will come out better. Besides, I don't think any of us know what we want to read.

Well, the thing is, a lot of the time any one of us might have four or five story ideas bouncing around at once. So, it's not a matter of writing what we want to write vs not, exactly, it's a matter of writing one thing that we want to write vs writing a different thing that we want to write that might have broader appeal.

That's how it is for me anyway.

I'm also curious about general fanfiction reading habits. What does it take you to pick up a fanfic? Does it have to be long or short? That sort of stuff.

You don't have to make it short, just approachable. Breaking it down into pieces helps.

Tamiyo x some girl. Nothing out right, only heavy subtext. Or how about a huge epic poem in iambic pentameter about someone traveling in a hellish place. So yeah, Dante's inferno. Maybe theros or phyrexia or whereever. Or a story about I dunno, someone killing bolas, or bolas taking over the world. Oh oh, MAKE THE FIRST PLANESWALKER BATTLE BETWEEN BOLAS AND THE LEVIATHAN WALKER.

In that scenario we'd have to make up our own protagonist that accidentally discovers his spark while fleeing from an enraged Chandra who is pissed bc said protagonist saw her fanny. Ensue battle with Jace, who ends up being defeated bc the protagonist is so naturally talented/stupid Jace can't even read his mind.

Well, obviously everyone thinks Ajani is a catwoman. I kinda think Domri is a transvestite.

The thing is, we need agency here. Why does the protagonist go to the bath house? What trials/tribulations can he not overcome now that he will be able to by the end? Why does he want to conquer those trials and tribulations? Who is the antagonist? Who is his foil? Who are his two love interests?

From there, you have to figure out a beginning, middle, and end. But you can't until you have that other stuff first.

I would also be highly supportive of this initiative.

Ok, so, is this a serious suggestion? Because I've had an entire plotted out novel's worth of story for the fall of Vithia, the rise of the demon lords of Grixis, and the betrayal of Sedris, Traitor King for like... two years now, but I never bothered to get beyond the planning stage because I wanted to write it in Iambic Pentameter and who the hell wants to read Iambic Pentameter, right?

But... maybe people actually would read Iambic Pentameter?
