So, as we have a limited number of WCs, we'll have to focus on one deck at the start.

What do you guys think will be strongest in the new standard? I'll probably go for GB Control, GB Stompy or UB Surveil with Thoughtbound Phantasm, Dimir Spybug etc.

With all the tokens and Red being worse then it used to be, it seems that black or white will be needed for sweepers.

Turo-Surveil by PVDR:

Lands
8 x Island
8 x Swamp
4 x Watery Grave
4 x Drowned Catacomb
Creatures
4 x Doom Whisperer
4 x Dimir Spybug
4 x Thoughtbound Phantasm
4 x Lazav, the Multifarious
2 x Blood Operative
3 x Thief of Sanity

Spells
4 x Thought Erasure
4 x Creeping Chill
3 x Price of Fame
2 x Notion Rain
2 x Discovery // Dispersal

Deck looks tight. And go-wide strategies might not be that hard to play against due to all the fliers.

GB looks great, but the amount of chumps might make it's life hell, as there are no tramplers.

GB Stompy by Mike Sigrist

Lands
1 x Swamp
15 x Forest
4 x Overgrown Tomb
4 x Woodland Cemetery
Creatures
4 x Llanowar Elves
4 x Pelt Collector
4 x Merfolk Branchwalker
4 x Thorn Lieutenant
4 x Thrashing Brontodon
3 x Vine Mare
2 x Ghalta, Primal Hunger
4 x Steel Leaf Champion
4 x Nullhide Ferox
Spells
3 x Assassin's Trophy

I'll be looking at Selesnya Convoke (if that's a deck), Golgari Mirange (fairly certain that's a deck; new Vraska and Assassin's Trophy are looking great as is curving with Nullhide Ferox, the 3/1 Elf and the 4/4 and growing Troll.
I'll also be looking at Control shells; Dimir base splashing basically anything looks good.

I absolutely hate token decks, so I won't even try probably. But if they are a rhing I wonder how Boros is going to fare with so many chumps to bypass.

The troll is great, big and fuels your underfrowth easily. Might be an interesting card to build around. The new Vraska is okish, has to be built around to really shine.

Pelt Collector into Glowspore Shaman into Troll into Nullhide Ferox into Doom Whisperer seems like a really good curve; back this up with great removal spells (Assassin's Trophy, Price of Fame, maybe Vraska's Contempt, Status/Statue or Find/Finality), some more solid curve-fillers (Llanowar Elves, Jadelight Ranger, Kraul Harpooner, Underrealm Lich) and some planeswalkers (both Vraskas seem quite potent in this shell) and you have your GRN-iteration of the "Rock" deck.

New Vraska is really good IMO. I give that her +2s added effect is somewhat situational, but at some point you might want to exchange your Llanowar Elves and Glowspore Shamans (maybe even unfed Trolls) for real cards. Her -3 is the insanely good Abrupt Decay. Her -9 is kinda eh unless you're up against Control (where your -3 kinda stinks) or winning hard anyway, but even if you just go Abrupt Decay, +2 for no value, Abrupt Decay; she has done a great job.

That turbo-surveil list looks pretty much like the deck I was theory crafting.

I've been preparing for the rotation by mostly playing izzet spells and boros aggro to get a feeling for both decks and then start shifting to the new cards.

I'm gonna go with boros to start with because my current deck literally wins or loses in 5 minutes, so it's a very efficient grind deck.

Yeah, I was thinking of some cheap keld variant to begin farming. We'll see what cards we get at start.

You know what's gonna be good in new standard? Remorseful cleric. With all the graveyard shenanigans and the rotation of scavenger grounds, it's probably the most efficient graveyard hate around and it doubles up as a evasive beater. I was testing it in my boros deck and it singlehandedly beat a UW GPG deck which was so sweet (2 games in a row).
Also, Tocatli Honor Guard may be another card to watch for as there are a lot of etb effects coming with the new set.

Remorseful Cleric I can get behind; Tocatli Honor Guard doesn't stop the really scary creatures since they have no ETB effects (Steel Leaf Champion, Vine Mare, Nullhide Ferox, Doom Whisperer, Rekindling Phoenix, Lyra Dawnbringer and the list goes on); plus a 1/3 for 2 is unacceptable in Constructed.

No offense implied, but that deck seems horrendous. Almost half of these cards I'd consider straight unplayable in Constructed because they're too low impact or too expensive for what they do; as a result the deck suffers from being not efficient enough.

As a last minute thing, I blew all my gold and gems on packs to get enough WCs to net-deck a UW aura deck from mtg goldfish.

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1332884#paper

What a blast I had with that deck!
Shame there aren't really any quality substitutes for the cartouches though, so that's another deck that won't survive rotation. But, what I wanted to say was, Novice knight was totally awesome in that deck.

As for Avenger's deck, the sword of valeron is busted in limited but totally clunky in constructed and won't work. Danitha is also too slow and easy to remove. Valiant knight can be a house in a knight tribal deck, but will often be too little too late. All-round the deck is probably too slow for an interactionless strategy.

I'm working on a boros tokens, hyper agressive deck that may or may not be viable post-rotation (pre-rotation it certainly was).

Creatures (21)
4 x Dauntless Bodyguard
4 x Skymarcher Aspirant
2 x Snubhorn Sentry
4 x Relentless Raptor
4 x Benalish Marshal
2 x Legion Warboss
1 x Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice

Pumps (6)
3 x Pride of Conquerors
3 x Heroic Reinforcements

Auras (4)
4 x Demotion

Tokens/Ramp (7)
3 x Legion's Landing
4 x History of Benalia

Land (22)
3 x Mountain
4 x Clifftop Retreat
4 x Sacred Foundry
11 x Plains

Can't really say how good demotion is, but it should help the all-in hyper agressive strategy and boost the permanent count for the city's blessing. If it doesn't work out, I'll screw around with more mentors and snubhorn sentries and perhaps the Goblin Instigator as an extra go-wide tool.

I'm pretty sad that Sai Master Thopterist and Phylactery Lich aren't getting any decent artifacts (and losing a bunch) with the rotation.

For esper I'm thinking that a lich's mastery/life-gain/dawn of hope deck could be a thing, with tokens or chromium as a finisher. But after a wipe, it'll take ages to unlock all the cards...

I`m gonna try Aggro first, I think Boris and Mono green looks quite good, also the new Keld deck seems solid, then after we can asses the power of aggro I think I`m gonna try the Golgari/Sultai Midrange pile... and I got plans for Niv Mizzet in a Grixis Shell but both of those piles should wait until the dust settles from the aggro onslaught.
