This is NOT my deck, but I think it’s worth posting anyway. This deck might have been a thing if it weren’t for Temur Energy.

Deck: UW Control 2

2 mana:6
4 x Censor
2 x Search for Azcanta

3 mana:14
2 x Abandoned Sarcophagus
4 x Countervailing Winds
4 x Drake Haven
4 x Renewed Faith

4 mana:16
4 x Cast Out
2 x Curator of Mysteries
2 x Dusk // Dawn
4 x Hieroglyphic Illumination
4 x Settle the Wreckage

Lands:24
4 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Irrigated Farmland
7 x Island
8 x Plains
1 x Shefet Dunes

It’s just missing Fumigate to be an exact copy of a pro-level deck. How does it need to be adjusted now?

1st impression: Why aren't you running Ixalan's Binding?

2nd look: I feel like you lose really hard to a couple of Ixalan's Binding. If I could land one on a Drake Haven and a Cast Out I'm not sure what you'd be able to do. I feel like that would be a really rare but really bad situation.

3rd look: If I'm just running blue_control.dek how do you win? You are only running Censor and Counterveiling Winds. A lot of control matchups end up turning into a counter-spell war, so I'm wondering how you beat other control decks basically.

Good questions, you should ask the guys who top 8'ed at GPs and a World Tour with (basically) this deck though (only difference is Fumigate instead of Dusk/Dawn). I just posted it on NGA, because it came up in another thread.

My guess: Ixalan's Binding doesn't Cycle (some may not have had access to the card also). That's the same reason I wouldn't play it. Also, it's sorcery speed - which is another good reason not to play it. Cast Out is just generally better, IMO, and definitely better in this deck.

As for the worst case scenario: unless every deck is supposed to win every single game, I don't really know what to say. The deck probably also loses to a t4 god draw from RDW.

Put another way: the deck only has 2 win conditions in it. if you manage to bind both, I will have to concede.

Just took this deck for a spin in quick constructed...0-3, and not even close...ever. Got absolutely crapped on vs. all kinds of janky garbage. Too slow in this meta.

1st game vs. saprolings. Outrun by tokens + freyalise +1/1 counters / invulnerable / trample

2nd game vs. GB explore + helm of the host..behind by t2, never had a chance to catch up.

3rd game vs. some janky cat garbage with Huatli, got run over by cat tokens. Naturally, I had Dusk in hand, and all cats were 2 power, except one.

Dang. Well that probably explains why it didn’t get play anymore. Other than dusk failing, could you pinpoint any other obvious issues? (Just curious)
