They played with me a bit when they were younger. I guess they have their own things now.
The curse of time
Anyway, on topic: I intend to try my single Tocatli in place of one Knight of Grace tonight. As of now they are the most debatable creature in the deck - except for Tajic, but he's just a replacement for the 4th Marshal. I want to judge Tocatli by asking myself the question "Would I have preferred the Knight now?" whenever I draw him, so a 1-of isn't all that bad for that purpose.
I am rather fond of the white knights for their First Strike allows them to attack into a lot of boards (+ Benalia synergy). But in theory, they're there for the Golgari matchup in which Tocatli should simply be stronger. Should also be better against RDW for it doesn't die to Shock and denies Chainwhirler (sorry for repeating myself). And lastly in the mirror, which should happen more frequently in the foreseeable future, it denies the elephant to those who run it, which I don't.
Regarding kitties, I go back and forth but am still not convinced. Versus RDW it's about the lifegain provided by the 1/1 cat, but for that I need 3 creatures. Otherwise it's just a shame compared to the different
Elite Vanguards (I know, it's
Savannah Lions for oldtimers, but I'm a Duels kid and like everything on that card). On the other hand, growing a Pridemate and connecting to face are two very separate maneuvers - in any matchup.
And another topic is land-count. I run 23 and am quite happy with that while most PT decks go down as far as 20. One factor is
Adanto, the First Fort of course which acts as a land like Flower/Flourish in Selesnya decks. So going down on lands only works when you have enough copies of that. But even then, with Arena's "best-of-2" hand selection I'm afraid I'd end up mana-screwed too often. However if that works as simple as it has been worded, that algorithm should still pick 3 lands over 1 land with 20 in the deck, 1 land over 4 lands though which isn't the case with 23 lands. And I always mull 1 but not always 4. I hate mulliganing for I "always" end up with something even worse.
