Okay, I know that this should probably be in the meta discussion or deckbuilers, but I think it is dead enough around here that I can get away with this having it's own topic. This is an updated version of the Blue Devotion Thassa deck. I played that deck off and on for a while, and although it was fun, it really did not have the power level needed. This new deck reminds me of the playstyle of the old Academy decks. It is no where as powerful, but once you start to "go off" it is almost as unstoppable. The difference is that this deck "goes off T6 or so instead of T1-3, and you do not have the options that Academy did for Mana and card draw. But once you start building mana and drawing your deck, it becomes a game of "Solve the Magic Puzzle" like they used to have in the old Duelist magazines. (Totally dating myself here, I know) Anyway, here is the deck: For Whom the Bell Tolls 3 Unsummon Early Defense and combo time lets you replay key cards for mana or cads 4 Corridor Monitor This is the heart of the deck. You would think that 4 is not enough untap options, but as long as you can get one to stick, you can copy/unsummon to multiply the effect. Also, great for an early blocker 3 Fae of Wishes Early Blocker and lets you pull what you need in Combo Time 4 Omen of the Sea Card draw/selection that adds devotion 4 Thassa's Oracle Win condition, and used early to set up combo. Don't worry about using these up as you can draw your deck to get to the last one. Sometimes wins vs Rogues even w/o Combo 4 Glasspool Mimic Mainly for Corridor monitor, but Owl is a great target as well. Also, used for land quite often 4 Midnight Clock Mana boost and devotion with a potential for refilling hand during combo time 4 Arcanist's Owl Good for finding pieces, also best devotion source. If you play one with an untapped Lotus out, it is basically free 4 Nyx Lotus The mana. Best to play when you have 6 mana can can play with a monitor as well to start combo. Vs some decks that can't kill, it can be plated T4 2 Sublime Epiphany Added for Ugin, but so useful for Combo time as well. Return and/or copy a Monitor and drawing a card is very useful. 4 Sea Gate Restoration Great Card draw. 4 Gadwick, the Wizened Your main card draw, and can be used to disrupt aggro decks. 4 Castle Vantress 12 Island Sideboard Still working on this as teh Fae was teh last add to the deck 1 ueah of: Unsummon Soul Guide Lantern Frogify Sorcerous Spyglass Cancel Ashiok's Erasure Mythos of Illuna Sleep Telfari, Master of Time Covetous Urge Discontinuity Sublime Epiphany Overflowing Insight Ugin, the Spirit Dragon Thassa's Intervention Mainly split between copy effects, draw, counters and specific defenses (Like Sleep and Frogify) The deck take a bit to get used to, and I have had some bad streaks, but many more good streaks. It has taken me from Platinum 4 to Diamond 2 fairly well. I want to Hit Mythic for the end of season, but I started late and wanted to get the deck out there. (most my game time is playing Satisfactory now) You eventually get a feel for when you can successfully combo. Of course the deck is made for BO!. i don't think that even with a reworked SB it would stand up to BO3, and even in BO!, if it ever became popular (it won't) more artifact hate or couterspells would doom it. This is just a deck to surprise people that are not prepared for it, and who really is prepared for it in this meta? |
