I forgot to do it, but if you (like me) have more common/uncommon wild cards than you could ever need, a reminder for every future new set: before opening any packs, spend all your common & uncommon wild cards. This way any further commons/uncommons you open progress the vault and turn into more advanced wild cards.

Yeah, only rare/mythics count as gems once you get more then four.

Still worth doing this though, as it boosts the amount of progress you get from the Vault, but don't be a total idiot like me and blow all your uncommon/common wildcards and then not have enough to craft cards you actually want haha

I still have over a hundred common and uncommon wildcards.

They become vaut progress not gems, I did it and you get 1.1% vault progress for every pack + any rewards, in the long run you should get one extra vault for the duration of the set by doing this, so its totally worth it.
