Is Nyx Lotus broken?
I just saw a LVD vid featuring the card and oh boy that thing is very much busted.
The mono U deck that he built seemed super tight and the amount of mana that thing can provide while escalating is just amazing I wanna build that deck!

I dunno. Is Agro not a thing this season?

Hard to imagine taking t4 off being a powerful play, but if you’re under no pressure then yeah, I could see that card being pretty good. Half of the you tubers I’ve watched just quit any time someone plays an aggressive deck against them, so sure it could be busted if you’re ceding every game against the decks that would stomp a card like that and only playing against the decks it would beat.

It runs Kiora and can untap lotus when it enters play - can immediately start going off if cast off curve, or hold up borrowers bounce if on curve and played anything T2 that still on board with Kiora. I agree the deck looks amazing - like a total blast to play.

You can certainly do some busted stuff with it, but Idk if it’s exactly broken. I don’t even think every devotion deck would want this. It really wants Kiora to untap it, and card draw to keep pulling spells to spend all the mana on. In mono W, B, or R you could play a big X spell like one of the finales, but that seems more memey than anything. G could access Kiora for the untap, but what happens when they’ve played out their hand? In standard, I think it’s only busted in mono blue with their multiple untap effects and card draw options.

I dunno, but definitely looks fun.

ha, wow that turn 4 where he went from playing islands and a nyx lotus to unloading his hand and then some.

I wonder if that deck would want leyline of anticipation and some Fae of wishes.

I like chevaliers in LVD's pile.

It’s going to depend on how good aggro and counter spells are. This is going to be hard to land against a bunch of potential decks.

I have a gut feeling that it will lead to a slow control mirror if it proves viable lol. Same thing that happened with Scarab god

Is the format weak? What’s up with these slow mono white and black decks? They look bad and they got stomped, but is that representative of the meta, or not?

I mean come on... Ajani’s Pridemate? Lol, that’s the threat? Haha

Witch’s Oven... is that even a card?

It’s making it hard for me to evaluate the deck’s power, tbh.

It’s the release of Theros so peeps are playing new stuff, testing ideas and interactions. Mono white got Daxos, Blessed by the Sun and Heliod, Sun-Crowned that can get bonkers together with life gain and counters production - I’m sure that’s what the person in game one was trying.

Witches Oven is stronk AF in mono black and Sacdos decks in particular. That was known last season when they released oven and the cat. Mono black got new toys and is hella popular right now.

There’s some good aggro decks in Rakdos and Gruul last season thanks to Embercleave but nothing like mono red from a few seasons ago that you saw everywhere. Not sure aggro decks got anything from Theros to make them better.

I dunno about Aggro... Temples are so depressing for us, cat oven is very much a deck and it was t1 last season and probably mono black will be a deck too, none of the vids are playing in a competitive environment so results are not really relevant at this point, I still haven't been able to test the deck coz I'm away from home ATM but this deck looks very impressive to me.

Hmmm. Daxos, Heliod is strong, mixing in 1/1 life link fliers and other similarly bad cards is probably not.

Oven, Cat is okay, but that doesn’t feel like an engine to me, it looks like fun (no doubt there), but not powerful relative to what I’d expect a competitive deck to run. These are really bad cards on their own.

@Cucho, I was under the impression that there was only one T1 deck last season: Oko. Everything else was way less powerful, at least based on what I saw (which I admit wasn’t that much, because Oko decks were extremely boring to watch).

After field was banned Oko eat the Meta then Oko was banned and Oven became the top dog, then Rakdos cleave became close second.
Cat oven is a Jund deck and it was the best engine in the last standard, don't be fooled the card is real.

Yeah I don’t think the white deck that person was playing looked good. I think lifegain decks are still just memey

I don’t know what to tell you about cat and oven tho - Jund sacrifice was one of the best decks in the game end of last season winning tournaments and it runs them. Them along with Trail of Crumbs make for a very powerful engine. You see oven and cat in mono black, rakdos, golgari, and jund. It’s legit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t think it sucks. I struggle to see this being top tier tho, cause with minimal interaction it’s not particularly powerful if you can’t draw or stick lotus. In a BO3 scenario, opp boards in artifact hate and I don’t know what this deck does. It’s pretty all in on the absurd mana generation.

Maybe just a meme deck; idk what the best version looks like yet (best version prob needs a very transformative side board, or at minimum more wish fairies to fetch counters). But personally I make a distinction between meme decks and sucky decks. At worst it’s hella fun, and sucky decks aren’t even fun. That’s why they suck.

What are we doing with this extra mana?
