I thought that the player base was more mature then this, but I am running into it 10-15% of the games I win. I would love to get a listing of offenders, but probably against site rules.

I found that dual monitor setup and plex on the other alleviates it a little bit.

Opponent starts roping due to impending loss, I watch John McClane tie C4 to an office chair and toss it down an elevator shaft. :bored:

But yes, I've noticed this as well. On principle, I will not reward that behaviour, as I assume leaving and giving them a win will encourage them to continue. I will play it out while focusing on Hans Grubers evil shenanigans.

[edit] between the lines, yes, I'm binging Brooklyn Nine-Nine :D

I've been complaining about opponents not conceding vs. an unstoppable Nexus combo for a while, this is the same.

Um, it's exactly the opposite.

You're mad because you run a slow af wincon and other people don't just concede?

Magic's a simple game, 2 people take turns playing cards and in the end Divinevert wins 2-0...

Yup. viewtopic.php?p=645801#p645801 I can do this all day.

And I give this guy props for conceding.

It's probably reasonable to assume that you need to win the game in order to win the game. You can't rely or expect an opponent to concede.

I'm not gonna run out timers or anything but if my opponent does, I'll just do something else like play on my phone or with myself.

I resemble that wincon! :P

I am running Esper now, with Kefnet, Mill, Command the Dredhorde and Enter The God Eternals tokens as the only wincons.

Still, I move the game along as quickly as possible and try to end it asap instead of showing off like I have seen some opponents do. IMO, that is different then someone that has no cards in hand and is facing lethal as soon as they pas their turn, but they opt to drain all 4 of their time outs before conceding. I know they are trying to 'punish' me, but I realize that we are just sitting there browsing the internet wasting both our time. Doesn't hurt me any more then it hurts them. I just kinda roll my eyes on how juvenile they are being.

The odd things is as I have leveled up, I have noticed more of this behaviors AND more courteous players then the lower levels.

No permanents in play against an opponent with Teferi emblem and the ability to loop Nexus whenever he wishes ... yeah, it's probably reasonable to assume that they need to win the game and it's not yet time to concede.

I wonder if I'd be able to call a judge if this happened in paper, as a time-wasting tactic (especially if I lost game 1).

@wintervoid at what ranks do you start getting more courteous opponents?

I agree. On the opposite side, I may sometimes concede too quickly. Sometimes I see lethal by my opponent but the they do not capitalize on it. I have won a few games that I really should have lost if my opponent was paying better attention.

@banedon I am in Diamond and noticed a change there, both for better and worse.

I was in a big event once where a few guys figured out an infinite loop to win the game in a collectible card game. The loop took a long time to do, but it eventually leads to a victory.

You basically sit there watching your opponent do a ton of actions until he eventually wins. The guy(s) that built the deck called the judge over to see if they can just auto-win once they start the infinite loop. Judge ruled no, said you have to win the game. So I sat there for 45 minutes while my opponent eventually won the game. Pretty boring (the loop got fixed after by the game designers of course). One of the more clever and competitive players realized that HE is allowed to shuffle the opponent's deck for him if he wants to. So when the guy started doing the loop to his own deck, the other guy called the judge asking if he can shuffle the deck instead. Judge agreed.

So you can imagine what happened next. The guy very slowly shuffled the deck each time the guy did the loop. This resulted in 40 minutes of shuffling and about 5 minutes of actually doing actions, so the guy timed out and it was a draw (or whatever).

It's easy to place blame on either player there for being douchey, but in reality the true fault lies in the game designers who didn't play test enough to avoid these types of negative play experiences.

Anyway, I'm glad i'm not playing Arena if this type of deck is out there. I fell asleep more than once playing against Esper Control and I imagine this is far worse.

20 minute game vs a RDW player that started pausing every step once he saw it was unlikely that he was going to win. The last 12 minutes of the game was the 3 turns it took me to finish him off.

Edit: I mean if your wincon is make the game so tedious that no one wants to keep playing... Well sir two of us can play that game.

My friend has another friend who will never play MTG with them again.

This is because of a multiplayer game where my friend made them shuffle their deck 3-4 times per turn on every player's turn. The other person's deck was the kind of atrocious deck being described in this thread that just makes the game as tedious as possible, and my friend was tired of playing against it after a few games, so..........

The last time I played constructed magic 25 years ago with some « friends » was when I had made my Walls and Balls deck. All creatures were walls and all spells were direct damage fireballs. After losing to it four times in a row, this guy picked up my deck and threw it across the room

I took up other hobbies after that

A judge would laugh in your face.

This thread is hilarious. Opp roping when facing lethal is not the same as an opp who refuses to concede to a deck who’s primary win con is griefing you with boredom till your will to play is broken. The former is salty degeneracy, the later is tit for tat.

Really, when you think about it, it’s just answering a win con :teach:
