So Wizards is testing a new mulligan: every time you mulligan, you draw seven cards, but then you need to place N cards from your hand on the bottom of your deck (where N is the number of times you mulliganed).

Thoughts? It seems to me that this mulligan rule is very dangerous in eternal formats because of the ease with which you can dig for your combo pieces, which I presume is why Wizards is testing it at a Modern tournament. However this should also prevent more non-games, which is a good thing.

sounds AWFUL. It shouldn't be a lengthy part of the game.

I dont find it half bad, sure there are formats where you are willing to go to 4 to get the pieces of your combo but I dont see that happening in standard any time soon.
Also that Sphinx that lets you scry 3 just got a lot better.

Where the hell are they testing it?
Surely not in my games I know that much.

I like it, nobody likes mulliganing again and again and it's probably less severe then the "free" 7 Duels gave us and that hardly broke anything

For stuff like Modern and Legacy ect it's dangerous but for Standard and draft i only see upside tbh

I like it. At least for limited and standard (don't play older formats, so won't comment on those).

Changes to mulligan rules are a long time coming. Winning vs mull to dead sucks. Opening hand land screw/flood sucks. Wizards knows this blows and have been testing ideas since duels free first mull. That was dece and arenas scry mull is dece, but it still wasn't great. I'm excited to play by the new rules, and appreciate the effort if nothing else.

Fine for standard, absolutely horrendous for any eternal format

Combo decks are probably going to dominate the tournament they're testing it at

Don't forget though, just like how combo decks can mulligan to their combo, so can their opponents mulligan to hate cards.

The more I think about it, the more I'm looking forward to this.

Been testing with paper matches with Magic Master, on a mull to 1 it’s pretty much identical except you have to bottom from the 7 rather than top of your deck (which you can always keep). But if playing magic is getting a chance of a decent land / spell mix then at least this gives you a better chance of a playable hand. Will never compensate for bad distributions but in standard it should make for better games without as many mana issues. SD
