WOTC, in their wisdom, have seen fit to provide a limited dialogue with your opponent with a “quote” box. Things like “Hello!”, “Your move”, “Ooops’, and “thinking ....” are hardly going to rival snapchat or twitch lol.

I get it prevents serious trolling but couldn’t they be a bit more banterish (banter by the way, a good Essex work for trash talk).

What about a John P McEnroe “You can’t be serious”, or the old favourite “WTF!” Or even “Salty!” Wouldn’t offend the PC police, would it?

What would you substitute from the very PC list available.

They probably ripped the idea straight from Hearthstone. <- You know, the game that completely swapped out one of its emotes when one of them was only really being used for BM. Then limited the number of emotes you can make per turn.

The idea is that if they don't let people talk to each other than they don't have to pay people to moderate it, and it's more "family-friendly". Hearthstone in particular basically has a "you're dumb for accepting that friend invite" stance on anything that isn't reportable to the police; although that isn't their official stance. I assume WOTC is going for the same thing for the same reasons. And people get surprisingly angry at emotes, so I can't blame them for the player base's lack of maturity and/or self control and/or a sense of humor.

the system of only allowing pre-selected messages as a means of limiting toxicity/other problematic behaviours is far older than hearthstone.

I really think we should have full chat but since we don't at the moment I agree Squidder in that we should have other choices like WTH maybe or Sorry if you have been afk for a few minutes taking care of life.
Seems they really want to keep this game kid friendly I guess.

I saw a Hearthstone strong competitive player once Bomb emotes on the other guy. I asked him why and he said, « the guy probably has disabled the emotes but in case he hasn’t, this is a key turn for him so if this breaks his concentration just a little, it’s a good thing to do and it’s totally free and
