Shalai is universally better than Shanna, the question is whether Shalai is good enough to make the cut. If your plan is to go fairly big, a 3/4 flier for 4 (and that's what Shalai is most of the time) is fairly medium and you might be better off playing other 4-drops.

I gave it 3 tries and it went 6-9. Aside from the fact that many games went south because the shuffler gave me 2 lands in 10++ games (I only remember one game with 3 and one with 5), the deck felt really underpowered vs mostly Grixis based piles. Nicol Bolas and Karn are everywhere and my deck doesn't really have a place in this meta. Going through the cards, many feel useless in the retrospective.

Do I have too many mid range cards that don't fit the plan of ramp into bombs?
Should I run more lands to make the shuffler keep 4 lands over 2 lands? I suppose with 40% lands (24) it will prioritize to keep in this order: 3 > 2 > 4. And I'd rather have 3 > 4.
How about my amount of ramp/color fix? Among those, Dryad Greenseeker and Manalith did the best job.
Do I miss obvious Naya colored bombs? The only one that came to my mind is Vivien Reid.

I don't think I've updated my deck in the subforum yet. I don't play a lot so I still have only one Singleton deck, although I think I'm going to work on another this evening as the rains fall.
I made a couple changes to it but it stills stays true to form. It must have one of EVERY Angel available to us in the game. There's a few bad ones like the 7cmc 4/4 flyer...at least that cycles for two.
But this format allows for janked all to hell but pure in idea to actually win and that's a fun thing.

Strong first win (see above picture) and then loss to a Vraska and Vivian PW onslaught and the third game I had to concede when I still only had two Plains on T6.

Game four was really weird. Dude had an enchantment on his creature that gave it +1/+1, trample and the enchantment could be brought back from the graveyard. He attacks with creature and I block with Narnam Renegade because that's why he's there.
Weirdness ensues.
Hit enchantment did the attack animation and the creature stayed still, game froze up for a second the then his creature went to the graveyard and the enchantment back to his hand and ....my Renegade stayed on the battlefield.
After that I could no longer mouse over cards to read them, I had to double click more than once anything in my hand I wanted to play. Couldn't even mouse over my hand. Renegade stays there the whole time. Cannot attack with it because of course it should be dead. Tried bouncing it even and that didn't work because it wasn't a valid target.
Won the game but damn... that was a weird bug out. I shall be reporting it I think.

Been trying to make a decent and fun ramp deck, it's turning out to be pretty tricky. My first attempt was green/red/black splashing white and blue, could do some powerful things but it really struggled against some of the decks you really need to be beating. Tweaked it quite a bit but the results were very medium - went 4/3, 5/3, 5/3, 4/3, 5/3. Main problem was it folded far too easily to crappy aggro decks.

Second time round I'm looking at base white green, with a big blue splash and a very minor red and black splash. Think white just brings more than the red used to, it's nice that hour hits PWs but eh and burning people out with ribbons or banefire isn't needed though Chandra was nice to have. So far it's gone 6-3 and 3-3 though the 3-3 was just unlucky, one loss to a mull to 4 and the other stuck on 2 lands despite a turn 2 azcanta on the draw. It feels a lot better than the first deck and the endgame is absurd, but it's still not feeling close to as good as mono black against decks you really should just be beating.

I'm probably too focused on the deck having a potential "combo" kill, but its beaten two approach decks so far after they cast their first approach and it does work quite often, with Sunbird on the table it's almost inevitable.

Two cards that look pretty out of place are the gearhulk and the insidious will. It's nice to be able to redirect a contempt at one of their own things and all but not sure if a single counter is worth running at all and if it is then maybe it should be cheaper or, thinking about it some more probably just Commit. Hulk gets almost nothing, but the stuff it gets is pretty awesome and the flash is super relevant if Sunbird is on the table. Cruel Reality should be in there 100%, but I still don't have it. I think 7 spells that can find Nexus with Sunbird is ok.

Any ideas?

Wouldn’t a deck with God-Pharaoh's Gift great in singleton? Lots of ways to fetch it and you can easily rely on 1 copy. Great toolbox with all the 1-ofs.

I don't think there's THAT many ways to fetch it in Singleton (since you can only run 1 Gate, Trophy Mage, Refurbish...) and there's a decent amount of artifact/enchant hate going on.
That said, the effect is very powerful and The Scarab God is possibly the strongest creature you can run in the format, so maybe there is some Grixis/Esper deck that wants GPG as kinda-sorta-second Scarab God?

Hm, cheating it onto the battlefield - Refurbish, Whir of Invention with a lot of artifacts, Planar Bridge.

Fetching:
Does Mastermind's Acquisition allow to fetch a 2nd copy from outside the game?
Diabolic Tutor to find any of the pieces
Final Parting to tutor for Refurbish and put GPG into graveyard
Inventor's Fair
Trophy Mage

Did I miss anything?

So I suppose Esper with an Artifact Theme would be the way to go.

Hard to say. Glittering Wish in competitive play pulled from a sideboard. I guess you could try building a sideboard, even for quick play, and see what happens.

Heh some approach guy was spamming Good Game at me, with 7 cards in hand, 29 life, Teferi and Karn on the table and Approach 3 cards down. No one expects Cabal Stronghold > Hailfire for 20 :D

Maybe I should postpone my brewing attempts and play with more different decks to get a better feeling for those things. Your Bant list looks like it's not all Mythic, so maybe I can take its bare bone and fill in a few cards.

Dammit, my ramp went from 6-1 to 6-3. The two losses were real annoying too, one to a token deck that topdecked pride when I had fumigate for the next turn and the other to chandra ult after whiffing on a pull for 7. Wish there was some 2 mana ramp spells around, the deck is almost there but it can lose to itself. Not a bad record so far at least, surprisingly good against blue decks and unsurprisingly not so good vs fast aggro.

Thinking about taking out Patient Rebuilding but it's been so good on occasion - the deck empties it's hand quite fast with all the ramp spells so a way to refill is really nice. Hmm.

edit: eww, and now I'm punting like crazy and mtga is leaking memory all over the place. Would normally be my prompt to leave it for the week, but singleton is going away soon, and PoE has a new expansion that's going to take me away for a month or two as well. Don't like playing when I'm making silly mistakes though :(

Only got to run the artifact deck thrice more before the end of the format. Tried moving removal around, Antiquities War, and readjusting the artifact/creature base. Couldn't manage better than 3-3 with it - or worse, for that matter. After seven of my ten Singleton runs ended at 3-3, I appear to have just been doomed to mediocrity this time around. :rofl:

Ah well, hopefully it'll be back soon-ish. Can't wait to be done with these godawful weekend events.

As much as I like singleton, I don't like the new singleton format.

It was good when you could just spam singleton and come out even or maybe ahead, depending on how janky you were feeling that day. But now going 5-x, 5-x, 0-2 loses gold. And with the reduced losses available it increases the effect of RNG on an already inconsistent format. It seems that to break even now is near impossible over any meaningful amount of games.

So are the cards rewards good enough that this massive downgrade is ok? I don't think so. There are so many uncommons and rares that just won't ever make it into a deck. Will I get a card that I'm going to use every 5 runs? No, that's very doubtful. And with the deafening silence over the 5th card issue, and the current awful Vault system, the value in collecting cards you won't use approaches zero.

I think I might be opting out of any event with this type of reward structure. Random cards are not worth anything near what WoTC seem to be suggesting.

I prefer to just play constrcuted. I always get at least 4 wins, usually 6-7, which nets me +gold and 2 rares/mythics.

Singleton is for people which don't have even 1 competitive deck.
