Another terrible candidate.

You can’t claim Trump is a threat to democracy as your whole raison d’etre, while at the same time trying to crown your own candidates.

I was telling my female friends last night that I don’t think America is ready to elect a woman

« Raison d’être », and you’re right. Harris not having a strong platform or policies was a huge problem

I’m guessing Biden would have lost as well?

lol, yeah, Biden would have lost. This has nothing to do with Kamala being a woman, or black, or any of that nonsense. Actually, I really dislike that you said that to your female friends… she’d have lost with the same platform (and circumstances) if she were a man.

P.s.: I wonder if Biden is aware enough to know Trump won. He shouldn’t be president anymore. I was serious, months ago, when I suggested he should have stepped down when he retracted his candidacy. I continue to think this was a mistake.

If Biden had stepped down and Kamala ran the ship for a few months, I think that would have helped her credibility a gréât deal

That’s the only way Canada ever had a woman prime minister. Some chick stepped in when the PM stepped down ahead of election

P.s. don’t blame me for stupid autocorrect. I spelled it right, autocorrect “fixed” it.

I just enjoyed seeing a Texan saying « raisin »d’être lol

Then I remembered I care about you so I pointed it out

But I’ll buy the autocorrect story THIS TIME

Now, stop disliking what I say to my female friends lol

Hey you’ll be happy to know that in a big meeting this week, Austin was the punchline to a joke

Be interesting to see how things will be at my extremely blue workplace. Guessing today will see light attendance and somber faces

My wife is going to be devastated. She commented last night about feeling extremely anxious over the election; I hadn’t realized she was that worried about it. Going to have to be attentive to her and try to keep from spiraling

Glad to hear about Austin. Tell them next time to make fun of Dallas too.

As for your female friends, I have always maintained that truth is important. I just don’t think your statements reflect the truth of the situation. It really is that simple… Blaming the Harris loss on her genitals is absurd.

At Timh, I wish you luck. I’m trying to keep my mother and wife from spiraling too.

Well looking at the data it's pretty brutal - Trump got 74million votes in 2020 to biden's 80million, this time around trump only got 71 to Harris's 66

A whole lot of people clearly didn't believe in Harris enough to go out and vote while trumps pretty much stayed the same

I think once the post mortem begins a lot of questions will be asked of why didn't Biden step down 6months to a year earlier to give a candidate a better run up.

Trying not to doom spiral too much but... yeah really not looking good for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia now

More people did not vote for Donald Trump when compared to 2020. I know all of the votes aren’t counted, but the turnout is way down.

Republicans vote. Full stop. No matter the person, they show up and vote. Who’s the R on the ticket? Doesn’t matter. Vote.

Democrats, for whatever reason, don’t. I guess we need to be inspired by the candidate or something? I just don’t get it. Not sure where everyone went. The votes are out there. They just took a day off.

2020
Biden - 81 million votes
Trump - 74 million votes

2024 (so far)
Harris - 66 million votes
Trump - 71 million votes

My take is that Dem supporters seem much more after the unicorn/perfection. Obama’s don’t come around often.

Their candidate needs to have the perfect take on Israel/Palestine and many other hot issues, or they don’t turn out to vote out of misplaced fear of appearing hypocritical.

Idealism is absolutely killing the Democratic Party :(

I suppose I agree with you BB. But I’m not sure what those ideals actually are. And I’m definitely not sure which ideals will actually happen if I vote for a democrat. This is why, not idealism (for Israel or Ukraine or education etc…), they struggle to win elections. They say a lot of things, but they accomplish almost none of those things.

The point is I’m not surprised by this result, even though I think it’s a bad result.

the ideals are different from person to person which is what makes it so toxic to the party. Liberals turn on each other all the time if they are not 100% in line with the other's thinking. I see this all the time. You have to be totally on message (which changes) on israel/palestine and on transgender rights and on (enter any number of liberal issues). Whereas Republicans don't really care if another republican is pro-choice, or pro-DEI. Just as long as they're not a democrat.

Because liberals hate each other more than anything, it causes major voter apathy since no candidate or platform is going to have everything they want on it.

They act like children. The NDP up here is like that. They're insane.

There's plenty of adults and sane-minded people in the democratic party, but the fringe/devouts of the republicans show up to vote consistently and the liberal equivalents do not. Because they didn't get enough sugar on their breakfast cereal so they're not going to school today.

Anyway, they very much made this bed. Enjoy sleeping in it. Drop the goddamn idealism and grow the fock up. The world is complex and dark and filled with terrors.

Again, I agree with everything you just said… but I still don’t know what ideals I was voting for. It should be clear as day I voted against Trump, rather than for Harris.

I just don’t know why anyone should have voted FOR Harris. And it seems like a lot of Americans never got that answer, hence the turnout.

On to the tipping subject.

The wife and I went out last night. Our bill was $58, ~$53 pre tax. The suggested total, according to their machine was $79, because of happy hour discounts. That’s almost a 40% tip.

We may never return to that restaurant. I was livid. I was especially pissed when the machine tried to suggest my $70 total was under 15%. These kinds of shenanigans are really playing with fire.

I guess everybody needs to pay more attention these days. I’m not saying don’t tip as they suggested, btw, everyone can do what they want. Just be aware that if you intend 15 or 20 or even 25% the machine may not be telling you the right total.

remember that you are living in a blue city

But yeah, I've been hearing about the happy hour adjustments to tips, it's insane. I don't think you should go back to that restaurant. Let capitalism play out the way it's supposed to play out. people that want to pay that will pay it and ultimately that determines the fair price of service.

i need to be giving more 13% tips (pre-tax), i just don't have the balls anymore to put under the minimum in the machine.

Hey, no joke but maybe Trump will do something lol

well, there's still a chance that they won't get the trifecta, also some of the states were close just not close enough to trigger recounts from what I've been looking at.

I am now 39 yrs old

If they don’t get the trifecta, I will see it as weird. The house is the result of the popular vote, which DJT won.

It would be very strange, to me, for him to win the popular vote while still losing the house. How were people voting at that point?

Also, happy bday!
