I'm trying to figure out a deck to build for grinding quick constructed. It has to be available for 5 mythic, 6 rare, 18 uncommon, and 15 common wildcards. I've opened maybe 20-25 packs so I may have some of what's needed already.

I've been looking at Mono Red Aggro, Mono Green Stompy, and Mono Blue Tempo. Which of these three decks has the better matchups vs the most-played decks in the meta right now? Is there another deck I could put together with these requirements that would probably do better than any of the 3? Feel free to link me to a deck you recommend. Thanks!

I'd suggest you take a look at kryder's mono-white list, he's been having strong results with it and it only uses 4 mythics and 4 rares.

I played two quick constructed runs with mono blue, missing some Wizard's Retort (I actually ran out of uncommon wildcards lol). The deck is ... inconsistent. It's extremely reliant on Curious Obsession. If I'm able to go first, play Mist Cloaked Herald and then Curious Obsession with Spell Pierce up, it feels like I can't lose. On the other hand if I don't have Curious Obsession then I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. A 1-damage / turn clock with the Herald is obviously terrible, but if I have to start adding more creatures I generally have to leave my shields down for a turn, and then a powerful creature like Goblin Chainwhirler or even worse, Lyra Dawnbringer, outright wins the game. I even almost lost a game to a Vampires deck because Bishop's Lieutenant cannot be raced, and he also had the vampire lord in play making his creature too big for any of mine to trade with. Eventually though he attacked with everything, I flashed in a Merfolk Trickster to turn off his Legion Lieutenant for a turn, and traded. I won the game by the skin of my teeth after that. I got lucky with this however. If he'd just drawn another Legion Lieutenant he'd have won - not only could I not afford to leave up counterspells, I didn't have Essence Scatter in hand, and there's nothing I can topdeck that would beat that!

Having said that, I did go 5-3 and 6-3, so it's not that inconsistent (especially since some of the losses were because of me still learning to pilot the deck).

I feel like the deck is almost there, but is definitely not tier 1. On the other hand it did let me escape the free play queue for which I am very grateful.

Red, white and blue seem to have a few strong, aggressive and cheap lists that you can use to grind.

Winrates will vary a lot from day to day depending on what you face and how well you know your own deck and that of the opponent.

I'm running Merfolk due to personal preference and it sits around 60% winrate in Gold Constructed since logging it with the MtG Arena tool. There's one deck I can't beat and that's RDW. Everything else can go either way, most creature based stuff feels favorable for me. Still no relevant sample size though, for example my mirror record is horrendous despite most of those guys running unmodified precons.

Too bad the tool doesn't list individual winrates for color-combos.

Don't go Green Stomp. Without 3x Ghalta you won't go through all the tokens and playing it is an EXTREME Chore due to all the removal flying around.

MTGA Pro Tracker can do that

Boy this deck is fragile. Once the opponent resolves an important creature there's no way to kill it except with Exclusion Mage into Essence Scatter (costs 5 mana, usually not available). I almost lost a game to Epicure of Blood just now, which says something. The deck is also infinitely weaker on the draw compared to on the play.

Don't choose monoblue unless you like living on the edge.

Well, you're a cheap one-trick-pony. If that deck would crush the meta, WotC would ban some integral parts.

That's not exactly fair, the mono-red decks are also cheap one-trick ponies. But they can actually cast their spells against creatures if they have to, plus if they lose the board they can always hope to topdeck lethal burn. Against that Epicure of Blood for example, they could attack into it and then kill it with Shock or Lightning Strike afterwards if they really had to, plus Runaway Steam Kin can reach 4/4 anyway. But if a game-winning creature resolves against me, I'm generally busted. I can stall a few turns with Merfolk Trickster and / or Sleep, but I have no way of permanently answering them.

This deck doesn't feel like my style. It has its strengths - being on the play with a cheap creature + Curious Obsession + protection feels so good - and I'm happy to play it to grind, but once I have more cards it's very likely I'll swap to another deck.

That's the advantage of red. They may lose on the board and still steal the game eventually with some burn. Our decks are more in the "nice" category whereas RDW is about to be a monster again.

Also, RDW can start cheap and improve with Rares afterwards. Your deck ends at Curious Obsession.

Mono blue might be a cheap deck, but it has a very high skill cap. It's aggro control and it takes skills from both kinds of decks to play well and a good grasp of what your opponent might be playing on any specific turn. Certainly harder to play than mono red and much more unforgiving of mistakes than a normal control deck. Which is kinda good really since it'd be really annoying to face that deck a lot since it can just shut down a game so hard.

Jeskai Control had the best record, not surprising given how many strong cards it gets to run, but then a pile of midrange decks came 2nd to 5th which did surprise me. Be interesting to see how the PT goes.

Standings and decklists can be found here : https://www.mtggoldfish.com/tournament/ ... 3824#paper

I tried the #1 deck. I substituted 2 Novas for 2 Settles I was missing, and I was missing 1 gateway, but I got a feel for the deck. It is powerful, and the combo is pretty nuts. With that said, I think that the surprise factor helped it win games. The deck relies heavily on Gateway. The games I won were because gateway was not targeted. The game I lost was because my opponent went after gateway, and I only has so many counters. This seems like the type of deck that can dominate as long as it does not become a main deck where people start packing main deck hate. It feels like Nexus Fog, but a bit better win condition and a bit less protection vs agro.

Curious on other peoples experience with the deck.

Mono Red is becoming dominant, for sure... I don't know how I feel about it... lately, I started playing Jeskai Control -just have one Gateway so not exactly like the pile above- and I have pretty good results... Izzet is a bit fragile against Green and there is quite some green floating around too...
mirror matches last at least 1 hour in B03
I did get the 4 Frenzy´s in ICR so is like I have a call to play the new frenzy deck... I have seen some interesting tech with Dismissive Pyromancer and Map
ImageImageImage
But I don't have any of those :(

EDIT: I just saw a vid of LegenVD with one version of the deck -without the tech above- and he went 6-1 on the metagame challenge... that's quite impressive!
EDIT 2: This is another deck you would love Barney... is RDW with card advantage and mana generation... Steam Kin is just insane! I love that guy

I've had a red deck with steam kin and frenzy cast 10 spells in a turn against me. Hurts like hell :-)

It's a fun deck. I have done 16 points damage form 6 mana, Frenzy and no other board. Average is 1 land and 2 spells, but still, even that can really turn a game.

I have the feeling that the next set will give enough tools to turn this into a T1 deck, or at least pretty close.

I've figured out what beats the monoblue deck and how to beat that!! "Your opponent goes first" beats the monoblue deck, and the solution is just "You go first"!

Good choice. My mono white, Big Love is pretty cheap also and very fast for the grind. I've played 30 games in the past 2 days and have lost 3 with the deck. Games are very quick. People don't agree with one of my placeholder cards (an enchantment) but they work out fine on the Hawks to give you a 3/3 flying lifelink hitting T2.

I want the metagame challenge to be an ongoing thing. Like, offer no prizes for less than 6 wins, then huge wins for 6 or 7.

The standard meta is getting boring as hell...
Seems all very coin-flipish. I feel like I'm going on winning streaks as often as losing streaks (even after switching decks).
Luckily singleton is available again, but this time round it's not the push over it was after the wipe (I haven't one to 5 wins yet).
