I remember you coming into that thread with a post, "HOW IS EVERYONE GETTING THESE KINDS OF RESULTS WITH THESE DECKS??!" lol, it was so funny cuz we could feel your frustration.

Yep, you read it completely right. I was thinking "I used to be good at magic, have I really gotten that bad?!?"

True but some of us have limited time so I really don't look at rank as a huge determinate. Hell, I'm a pretty damn good player and a very good player when not drinking beer and playing... That's why I'm a pretty damn good player. Haven't made it into diamond once.
I do agree that you find the best players here at any rate. We have a good home.

i wish you were around when Steve-o was building decks and saying they all had 90% win rates. Hakeem used to call him on it and they'd fight like cats and dogs. It was so much fun. Hakeem would get banned and stuff. I got hit with the ban hammer once too but I don't remember why.

What's funny is off the forum I was pretty good friends with Steve-O. I would regualarly pm with him.
Good guy with a DISTINCT personality that rubbed many people the wrong way but most of the time just made me laugh.
Spent a lot of good years here with you all. I have some stories.
Edit: Don't mention Moiri.
Edit, Edit: Might as well spill it now as we will never see him again but in real life Steve-O wrote for some pretty major gaming publications.
I wonder if we made it into anything he wrote? I'd really forgotten about that until thinking of him just now.

I used to write for InQuest and some other online stuff but I don’t think it’s a big deal

Favourite "deck tech" of all time was the guy who had a 5 colour deck with 0 ramp in it with Ulamog in who said "My win rate is 100% in games i've not been mana screwed or flooded" and "everytime i play Ulamog i win so that's why he's included" when called out upon it

Basically "my win rate is 100% when i win"

Statistics...

All decks I've made have at least a 10% defeat rate. Take from that what you will.

Oh - and on the 90% - think back.... Mwonvuli Acid-Moss

I had a few runs with that of 20-30 consequtive wins and very few loss streaks if any at all. Then it started to catch on, and success declined a bit. Mirrormatches down to luck of playing the first Moss.

And in one of the earlier duels, the green/eldrazi deck played with only 1-2 eldrazi and just ramping to victory. That thing was stupidly consistent also. (compared to the meta, so many limitations for other decks to be as good)

In arena, I'm above 50% since I keep climbing. But I've stopped taking it any kind of seriously, too much RL stuff to tend to. So I just play to play. Did hit Mythic on the "first round", just to try it and I did so running the same most consistent deck I had. It wasn't as fun as now, I switch between 8-12 different decks, competitive and jank alike.

Jank's more fun.

yeah, he was pretty special.

I do remember that thread though that you are talking about. We were all testing some builds and some of us (me included) were getting some pretty stupid win streaks (I'm sure it was cuz I was on xbox though), and I remember you coming into that thread with a post, "HOW IS EVERYONE GETTING THESE KINDS OF RESULTS WITH THESE DECKS??!" lol, it was so funny cuz we could feel your frustration.

Totally about being on Xbone. Being level 40 and getting paired with level 1 players running D card decks on the reg. When we were doing the break a card or theme deck challenges, janky ass lists would post respectable win rates. Even straight garbage lists were likely to be above 50% with a reasonable pilot. When CGB did his quest for the best runs before he quit duels, like every single deck he tried would get 10+ wins before hitting 2 losses. And that’s including flood/screw draws.

In mtga I have a consistent 55% win rate... It starts higher on the lower ranks but it flattens as soon as I hit mythic... I think that if I played a bit slower I could push that a couple points up...
I enjoy playing vs good opponents, I think the league will provide a more competitive environment not necessarily around net decking the top decks but more into in game desision making and complex board states...

Overall I rather have a 40% win rate playing vs better opponents that 90% with out being tested...

yeah, you're right. It was fun going on 46 game win streaks on xbox lobbies, but that one time I hit a 10 win streak playing King of the Hill against you guys, it actually meant something.

Giocher made it to #6
Vert was not jellous at all
Edit: my highest rank was something around 300, I heard Arena has about a 3M player base.... :V

Actually i reached #3 as highest rank, undefeated since 2 weeks, then i tilted for the first loss and went bavk to % in a couple hours.

Congrats. How was the tournament? How does it work when you get an invite? My main concern is finding times to do the matches.

And the Tilt? I can so identify with that.

Well it was just a qualifier, working as any queue as other events. You get an email saying which position you got in the qualifying month. Then they decide the weekend for the qualifier with very little notice. You have only one hour to enter the event, but then you have to whole day to play and organize yourself.

The tilt was about trying to reach #1. I was so close so after a loss i tried to go back there immediately, but just made things worse. But now i just chill, not really a spike. I try to push and qualify only if i'm already close to it. For example now i was trying the new Kethis deck and i have a 20-2 record that brough me to 99% mythic from diamond, so might as well try to qualify. Last season i went down to platinum 4 feom mythic and ended the season to platinum 4. It just depends on how i feel.

Giocher,

Thanks for the info.

I am just playing BO1, and keep waiting to face a Kethis deck, but have yet to see one. I am wondering how durable it will be once the newness wears off. It seems like it could be sturdy, as it seems there are several ways to attack it. I am thinking killing the Mox will give you the best results as it seems you need 2 and preferably 3 to really make the combo work, where you only need 1 Kethis. Also, since Mox will rotate soon, seems like this combo deck will only have a small window, at least in it's current iteration. I want to play it, but can't see investing the wildcards in it for just a month's play.....but I am guessing it will show in the tournament. What are your thoughts on it so far?

They should reprint Mwonvuli Acid Moss as a counter to Field of the Dead.

It seems good and resilient to hate. It can win by combo, beatdown, noncombo mill, jace after sideboard and just card advantage. I don't even care if they ego Kethis most of the times. 90% of my losses were due to mana issues, especially missing a color.
