Thanks for explanation about adventures. Seems like a good mechanic.

Of all the cards written the most impressive appears to be the new Garruk. 6 mana make two 2/2s that add loyalty when they die, plus an ultimate that's within reach just one turn after casting, plus the minus ability impacts the board immediately while generating card advantage. Sure the emblem isn't a game-winning ability, but it's still an emblem with substantial effects. Garruk makes Vraska, Relic Seeker seem tame, and that card was already playable.

I wonder if a wolf tribal deck could appear that’s more than just memey? Go Tolsimir, Friend to Wolves into Garruk, you could fight with his tokens and potentially ultimate next turn with a loyalty to spare. Factor in flash wolf and you already have a core to something memey at least.

I misread Garruk; I thought the first skill was +1. As a 0, it's significantly less potent. Probably still a good card, but less potent. Combo with Tolsimir is possible but relying on a 3/3 to stay on the battlefield might be hard. For wolf synergy there's also Arlinn, but I doubt she can compare to Garruk.

THe real Garruk/Tolsimir synergy is Tolsimir's ability to get the wolves dead immediately and guarantee Garruk's power up to unleash the ult (and survive!) next turn.
Not that 6 life a turn isn't a nice little bonus for activating a free ability.

I like how the ability affects all of your Garruks. Getting rid of the planeswalker rule is finally paying off in walker theme decks.

I think there's one big question with Garruk - is he better then Liliana, dreadhorde general?

They're close but my gut says Lili takes it, better minus, better ultimate and the passive vs Garruk's better plus ability imo

Yeah no kidding. The card is pretty strong imo, protects itself well. I think it will do pretty well, assuming there's a deck to play it in. It obviously isn't strong enough to be the deck on its own, but I don't think Lili is either. (outsiders perspective, so let me know if I'm wrong).

The thing is that outside Command the Dread horde and Bolas Citadel I don't recall any other viable 6 drops... that is the biggest problem IMO, most decks are doing all kinds of crazy **** pretty early in the game so maybe a bonkers PW like Lily or Garruk just doesn't matter too much... when is rooting in your hand until is too late. That said you can stabilize rather well behind an army of wolfs, Nightpack Ambusher is no joke either and probably theres gonna be Wolf support in Eldraine and in future sets.

I think Garruk is as powerful as Lily... but that might not be enough for current standard... maybe after rotation things calm down and both can see play...

Dang...

It’s very rare for me to see a card that just looks like it’s going to be in every deck that can even possibly play it.

Love him!!!!
It would be standard staple without the creature mode...
3cmc instant kill a creature or PW is perfect!!
The Life link is just gravy and makes up for the 2 life on the instant side.
Two relevant creature types also.

Murderous Rider is incredible.

Once Upon a Time may get some play. The regular effect is meh, but I am guessing it will get tried out by some people after a mana screw or two.

The 3/3 wolf may get some play, especially if there is a good way to produce food tokens and/or wolf decks become a thing.

Questing Beast would have been pretty sweet with just the keywords.
The rest is just (often irrelevant) icing.

Looks strong, compare Shifting Ceratops, although this is constructed so Vigilance & Deathtouch aren't that relevant on a 4-drop, plus presumably if you can connect with the opponent you could also have connected with any planeswalkers he controls.

Anyway, Rider is pretty much going to be a format staple, imo. I don’t know about the beast, might be good, might not be relevant (4cmc kills any certainty about the card). Rider is pretty much good unless the meta is so warped that even Hero's Downfall couldn’t save it.

The robber is pretty cool, just because it doesn’t have to connect for its effect, nor do any future rogues. I’d definitely try it early in the new meta - no idea how good the other rogues will be though.

It doesn’t say instead; you’re pressuring their life total while still hitting planeswalker for free on the side.

This looks good against control and some of the combo decks. Hitting face AND killing the 3 mana Teferi they just played. It’s like they made this to answer 3 mana Teferi. The clause about creatures 2 or less not being able to block seems good for scapeshift decks where they’re prob not going to have a 3+ power Krasis on board by T4 - and none of the 0/3s, 1/1s, or zombie tokens can block it. And vigilance is good vs creature based decks, so it has legs vs midrange and aggro too.

Maybe it’s not as good as it looks in the next meta, but it looks pretty good.

Man this set has some real flavor wins. This the first time since Alara block that I want to buy paper cards. I won’t cause I have kids that ate my disposable income, but the flavor game is stong enough so far to tempt me
