Well, this is yesterday's news, but whatever.

I am positively surprised by this milestone-move. Now the obvious relieve is that we won't stumble upon these time-stealing snooze-fests anymore. We also won't have to maindeck niche-cards for that matchup anymore.

But there's a second level implication: With the Nexus police gone, new decks might thrive. There's still the RDW-bar to cross but without another bar to go under, is the sky the limit?

Regarding the separate treatment of Bo1 and Bo3, I think this a risk worth taking. Obviously this is far and away better than no ban at all. On the other hand, as far as I know this card is no real factor in Bo3 so why take some people's shiny, real life foils away?

What do you guys think?

Pretty ambivalent. I can understand why they did it, but still didn't really care. Part of it is probably because I've been playing monoblue and monored in BO1, but another part is simply because I treat BO1 as a casual mode. The real game is in BO3.

By the way Nexus is a real deck even in BO3. Duress and Negate are a problem, but the Wilderness Reclamation deck can sideboard stuff like Carnage Tyrant and Biogenic Ooze also.

Looks like your mono blue got promoted to t1 btw. Thisarticle is full of "free win"-phrases refering to it. And that's from a Bo3 perspective - in BO1 that effect can only be enhanced.

I still haven't played a single BO3 game in Arena. I certainly prefer it in Paper on the rare occasions that I play that, but for Arena I'd rather have two 60-card decks than 1 75-card. Time is another factor, between working extra hours and watching important football games there's only so much time to play - and then there's also Path of Exile.

IMO it's a step in the right direction, but the correct move would've just been a flat out Standard ban.
There's just been too many issues with the card - even and especially in paper Magic - for way too little payoff.

That said, the ban definitely addresses probably the biggest issue with the card; so credit where credit is due.

Well, I do prefer not to play something that automatically loses to these kind of decks in BO1, e.g. I find it very frustrating to lose to creatureless control decks knowing I have 4x Duress in my sideboard. So I don't play something that autoloses to control in BO1. And as I said, BO3 is where the real game is at.

All that said, as I move to craft my Reclamation deck, I realized this has a problem too: I can't use BO1 to test or learn my deck anymore. That's annoying. Imagine if Nexus had been banned when RNA was released - figuring out what makes for a good Nexus deck would've taken much longer.
