Hi, in the light of the recent Temur resurgence, I decided to rebuild our version of temur, to have a look at how it plays out for us, now that we have a final cardpool. It's not a complicated deck to build, but there's some traps and choices to make, so I've jotted down my thoughts on it: We don't have Attune to Aether or the energy manadork, so we can't just play 22 land and 3 colors... we will have to combine ample landdrops with stuff to do with them later, whilst eschewing too many taplands. You could run our manadork to compensate, but the only truly GREAT 4 drop is the hydra, and our dorks don't leave energy behind when they get pushed out of the way. It seems better to just play a more gradual midrange game, replacing the dorks by other good 2 drops. Here's a draft : 3 x Longtusk Cub 2 x Voltaic Brawler 1 x Heart of Kiran 2 x Smuggler's Copter 2 x Oath of Chandra 3 x Harnessed Lightning 1 x Nissa, Steward of Elements 1 x Saheeli Rai 2 x Tireless Tracker 3 x Rogue Refiner 3 x Whirler Virtuoso 2 x Aethersphere Harvester As you can see, the early gameplan of the deck is quite consistent along two lines: It is very good at putting a t2 threat into a t3 support card, with multiple synergistic combinations. Only 2 Brawlers because having untapped t2 isn't guaranteed. Cubs have 12 followup spells to turn em on t3 ! Alternatively, it can play a t2 removal spell into a walker or a good 3 drop creature. Note that both Saheeli and Nissa Steward are both very good in this deck ( I think so anyway). I do think Nissa, Voice of Zendikar is reasonable here as well, but I prefer simic nissa for castability t3 and flexibility. 2 x Bristling Hydra 2 x Pia and Kiran Nalaar 1 x Arlinn Kord 1 x Chandra, Torch of Defiance Arlinn Kord is the worst of these 6, but she gets the nod over a different spell because of her synergy with Oath of Chandra, but also because she's always at least a 2/2 to crew one of the vehicles, this deck runs 6 of em, so bodycount matters alot. Her flipped anthem effect is potentially game ending thanks to the large amount of bodies this deck can make, and her unflipped + is pretty sick with Glorybringer. Oh and she poops Lightning Bolts. You could run a different spell here and if you do, make sure to tell me what you'd replace it with! 2 x Glorybringer 1 x Skysovereign, Consul Flagship Many people will add Big Jace or Samut here, Jace being quite hard to cast on t5 and Samut is a bomb, but not as much of a bomb as what I replaced her with (see below). Nissa, Vital Force is another very good walker but I don't want to overload that much on high drops, and I don't think she's as good as the card below ! 1 x Chandra, Flamecaller At 25 lands, we can afford this 6 drop. You could add Woodland Bellower as well, but I don't think its needed. Besides, Nissa, Steward of elements is also a pretty good 6 drop 2 x Island 4 x Mountain 4 x Forest 2 x Cinder Glade 2 x Rootbound Crag 2 x Hinterland Harbor 2 x Sulfur Falls 3 x Aether Hub 4 x Evoling Wilds That's 11 sources of blue, 17 red and 15 green.... No manlands in here to avoid having too many ETB tapped lands, the deck isn't exactly threat light so it shouldn't be a problem... The manlands are good manasinks, but we already have trackers + pia and kiran to work with the flood. Not ideal, but I think on Steam Duels you are more likely to lose with this deck due to not having a good curve than manaflood, especially when you are facing an agressive deck on the draw. Hope this was helpful ! |

Interesting choices. Not sure I love double Pia & Kiran; I'd probably prefer access to Woodland Wanderer or, sticking within the token sub-theme, Whirler Rogue to keep Cubs swinging. I'll give this a shot and see how it plays though, thanks! Missing two lands, I'm assuming Hinterland Harbor? How my planeswalkers does it take before not running Oath of Jace is a silly idea? |

The card just doesn't do enough unless you're playing Reanimator or some other shenanigans. Hm... Reanimator... something about Lili, Nissa & Grapple... I have something to think about. |

Think I have to disagree with that. The beauty of OoJ is you get all the benefits if you play it post-PW, so immediate hand refill plus a major boost for the late game of you have walkers in play. Add in the fantastic synergy with Nissa Steward and I'm sold. I think I play this and drop to 24 land. Decent with reanimator too, though Lily's the only must-play PW there I feel. |

Thanks for the comments. I don't hate Oath of Jace, but I don't think it fits very well in this build. The deck doesn't really want to take a turn of to refuel if it can help it, it relies on a decent curve and powerful synergies combined with high card quality to put pressure on the opponent without peetering out. I would certainly consider it in a slower version that tries to grind deep... this build is more about beating face. Pia and Kiran Nalaar are da nutz in this build. They are a quality stand-alone 4 drop, but they also crew multiple vehicles after you get swept, and provide direct damage reach in the lategame : The deck can produce alot of thopters, but clues or vehicles can be flung too ! Whirler Rogue is 'uncastable' with this manabase btw |
