Post subject:  Golgari Zombies (Don't Laugh) Crazy but different

So I wanted to do a zombie deck but I wanted something different than what everyone else is doing. I really like out of the box ideas. First off, I have Baloth Null and Honored Hydra as my green zombies. I also wanted to try out a card that I have not seen anyone play yet, Destined to Lead. I think the combo between the side with Lead and rancid rats with deathtouch could be a board wipe for the other guy. I played a few games with it and hope to do more in the next few days. Yep I had him in and then a bunch of cards got taken out. Later I forgot to put him back in. He deserves a place. I will try to figure out what to take out and get him in there.

Does deathtouch work like that? I thought it actually had to assign at least one point of damage to kill stuff. So a 1/1 deathtouch could only assign the one point of damage and would only be able to kill one blocker? (2 creatures if you buffed it with Destined the same turn you cast Lead).

Deathtouch only works if you assign damage. A 1 power creature should not be able to kill two different creatures.

Rules wrote:
702.2b. Any nonzero amount of combat damage assigned to a creature by a source with deathtouch is considered to be lethal damage, regardless of that creature's toughness.


Edit:
Do note that cards such as Chandra's Ignition can work as board wipe with deathtouch though. Sadly Monstrous Onslaught doesn't combo with deathtouch, since

I have not had the deathtouch creature with the Lead side of the card combo yet, so I do not know for sure if it will kill all blockers. I thought it would. If I get the combo with the rat, I will post my results here.

It shouldn't work, if it does it's a bug. But if you want it's easy to test, just ask for someone on the Discord to test it out against, make sure you get a starting hand that can play the rat, and that they get a hand with at least two 1 power creatures, and then simply attack and have them double block it.

Do note that even if deathtouch should happen to be bugged, which I'm pretty sure it's not, Rancid Rats is not the best way to get a board wipe using Destined // Lead, since skulk will prevent most creatures from blocking it.

It 100% only kills creatures equal to it's power.
It NEEDS to assign damage for it to work.
So as stated above basically for each point of power it has it can assign 1 of that power to each creature blocking it to kill them.
But 0 doesn't actually count as dealing damage in magic, so if you assign 0 to something it does nothing.
This also works with creatures that have "whenever this creature deals damage to anything" abilities, if they have 0 power, they don't deal damage. even if they go unblocked etc.
