This is probably total jank, but I love Sigil decks! I've been playing around with it vs the AI and it seems like it has some potential. I'm traveling in Asia, atm, so I've had poor luck connecting to try it online, but here it is: Deck: ENCHANTED DEATH Enchantments(24) 4x Dead Weight 3x Trial of Ambition - 5 sacrifice effects - great if you can keep the board clear 3x Thopter Arrest - Remove artifacts/creatures 2x Oath of Jace - Card draw 2x Imprisoned in the Moon - Remove creatures/planeswalkers 2x Oath of Liliana - In addition to sac, the zombie token is nice after our own walkers 3x Cast Out - Get rid of anything troublesome, including opponent enchantments/walkers/indestructibles 2x Trial of Knowledge - Card draw 2x Sigil of the Empty Throne - Win condition 1x Cruel Reality - Win condition Sorcery(6) 2x Declaration in Stone - primarily for pesky tokens 2x Languish - sweeper 2x Diabolic Tutor Planeswalkers(5) 1x Liliana, the Last Hope 1x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar 1x Jace, Unraveler of Secrets 1x Ob Nixilis Reignited 1x Sorin, Grim Nemesis Mana (25) 4x Plains 1x Island 5x Swamp 2x Shambling Vent 2x Sunken Hollow 2x Prairie Stream 2x Drowned Catacomb 2x Isolated Chapel 2x Glacial Fortress 3x Evolving Wilds Getting Sigil of the Empty Throne or Cruel Reality out is almost always GG. PWs are another way, as most of their Ultis will win. Strategy is pretty simple, do your best to keep the board clear until you can land a wincon. Getting your land drops is pretty critical, hence the 25 lands, should I go to 26? The mana curve is too high - would it be better to drop some of the 4cmc enchantment removal for faster 2-3 CMC Instants? You would lose Sigil synergy, later, but it could help survive to that point. I have a BW version that replaces Imprisoned in the Moon and Trial of Knowledge with Anguished Unmaking and Read the Bones. Obviously, 2 color is more consistent, but the life loss hurts, as well as losing enchantment synergy in late game. I've considered replacing some of the removal enchants in the Esper version with a few Anguished Unmaking and blue card draw. It's probably the next thing I'll test. Card draw is nice, but it's sometimes hard to fit in while keeping the opponents board cleared. With enough card draw, I might be able to drop the Tutors. I like to put together a Sigil deck with every release. I tried the creature based version, but seemed to have better luck with this more control oriented setup. Thoughts and suggestions are always welcome - even the expected "It's crap, move on."... |

This might actually be the slowest deck I've ever seen. Also, why in the world would you run Trial of Knowledge over Oath of Jace without any Cartouches, especially in a deck where 5/8 win cons are Planeswalkers? This deck isn't even particularly combo-y, it will run out of steam trying to 1-for-1 threats with the opponent unless the opponent's deck is terribad. |

yes. as a support deck with liliana's oath, black trial, expensive unconditional removals. it does decent work in 2hg as my teammate. When it's on the other side and both decks low in power, they fail pretty fast. p.s. add some card filtering read the bones and jace oath to reduce the chance of flooding or mana screw. |

I'm not sure how I missed Oath of Jace - you're right, they're in. I'm still not sure if all of the PWs should stay - or if I should remove some/all of them for faster removal/counters. I agree with the deck being slow - but then, most control decks play the long game. Their strategy is often answering threats 1-for-1, with sweeper(s) to answer bad board states, playing till they can land one of a few win conditions and then protect it. Yes, this deck is at sorcery speed rather than the instant counters and removal of other tried and true control decks, but it is at least a different take and maybe worth exploring. It definitely needs a way to handle Fabricate creatures, as you certainly don't want to remove their tokens one at a time - I'll look at adding Declaration in Stone as a potential answer to that. I started from a Sigil deck from last season (which wasn't very good, then, either), and tried the Sigil deck posted in the thread about Cartouches and Trials. I found the creatures there just didn't hold up - hence I started removing them for more enchants. I never expected a top tier deck, but it's been fun to play with - I mostly net-deck as I know I'm not a good deck builder. But, it's fun to try and I've had fun playing this, trying to make Sigil of the Empty Throne work... Thanks for the feedback! I'd love to hear more ideas... |

My take was Abzan and built around using Elemental Bond with Sigil to create some inevitability. I'm not telling you to take that same path, but you'll want something similar, a way to generate endless steam. Maybe Baral's Expertise, maybe Pull from Tomorrow. Several sets ago, I used Shadows of the Past, which is for sure isn't perfect, but the continuous scry from removal did help generate steam. Going blue doesn't give much in the way of great enchantments (I don't love Imprisoned in the Moon, especially when you have Cast Out AND Suppression Bonds in the deck anyway), so if you go that route, you'll need to use something else to get you there. When just a simple Whirler Rogue puts you helplessly behind unless you draw one of only two sweepers, you're going to have a bad time. |
